E stiamo sempre li, il problema è sempre quello: cosa si è capaci di fare e cosa non si è capaci, insomma l'essere o non essere musicale. Alla fine dipende dai propri punti di vista. Nel caso dei Simple Plan, fino al precedente lavoro il loro "Io" era semplice da definire: una simpatica e semplice pop rock band da teenagers.
E ora ascoltate l'ultimo omonimo "Simple Plan" e la domanda sorgerà spontanea: evoluzione o involuzione? Ed ecco che ci risiamo, so già quali saranno le vostre risposte: da MetalHead mi aspetto una bella coppia di 1 con tanto di "Schifo, solo merda", mentre dalla innocente EmoGirl93 mi aspetto un commento tipo: "sei stato troppo cattivo con i Plan, sono dei bravi ragazzi, questo Cd è mitico e il batterista è proprio figo , 5 al disco". Ovviamente non generalizzo, e i debaseriani da me citati sono fittizzi, ma mi chiedo: non esiste una via di mezzo? Possiamo credere che questi tizi abbiano "costruito" un Cd senza particolare emozione, un album da ascoltare di tanto in tanto quando bisogna rilassarsi un pò, nessuna pretesa, semplicemente perchè non la si può chiedere? Non nego che è un album che potrebbe essere criticato dalla cima ai piedi, ma possiamo chiudere un occhio e vi spiegherò il perchè.
Premesso che sono presenti diversi campionamenti, dai vari Good Charlotte (che a loro volta prelevavano qua e la), a Sum 41, Ataris, ed addirittura Justin Timberlake! Si proprio il tanto odiato dal fittizio MetalHead (e non solo, ci sono anche io).
Come detto, campionamenti a più non posso, grazie anche al boss del pop Nate Hills (meglio conosciuto come Danja, in collaborazione proprio con Timberlake nella sua ultima "fatica").
La hit del Cd "When I'm Gone" sembra uscita ben confezionata e pronta per il trono nelle charts con un mix elettro/emo/pop scontato, le varie "Take My Hand" e "Time To Say Goodbye" prendono spunto, o meglio affogano nello stile Zebrahead (ascoltare "Hello Tomorrow" per credere), per non parlare di "Your Love Is A Lie", un misto tra "Patience" dei Take That e "Cry Me A River" del già citato Justin, (non ti arrabbiare sta volta non è colpa tua... forse) mentre "Generation" vede la discreta mano maligna di DJ Lethal dei Limp Bizkit (e che ci fa qua? Si c'è pure lui). Devo continuare? No su, altrimenti sorriderebbe solo MetalHead, a dovere di cronaca devo ammettere che è un Cd che si può ascoltare, non l'album dell'anno, ma che fa? Fa niente se ne uscito un pasticcio? Fa niente se il già scontato pop/rock si incontra (o scontra?) con il flusso pop moderno? Basta che questo album non porti una nuova moda, una nuova e ancor più forte onda di imitazione, band che copiano e che sanno di essere copiate, insomma tutto un "mischia/mischia" che porta solo un senso di vuoto a chi ascolta e che già è presente nel mercato musicale.
Alla fine questo "Simple Plan" si guadagna più che dignitosamente le mie 2 stelle, non un granchè ma può andare, e non ve ne uscite ne con 1 senza ascolto, ne con 5 a priori da super fans, oppure fatelo, tanto alla fine dipende sempre e comunque dai propri punti di vista.

Un disco che, seppur meno immediato dei predecessori, si lascia apprezzare per la varietà compositiva.
