Il crocevia di ogni band degna di questo nome, di qualunque genere, è l'album live. Tutti (o quasi) prima o poi son passati attraverso questa tappa fondamentale per ogni band degna di tal nome. Infatti spesso e volentieri (anche se oggi purtroppo lo si può fare pure nei live) una prestazione live può far esaltare i pregi o i difetti di questa o quella band.
I Muse non hanno fatto eccezione, e dopo il secondo CD della raccolta Hullabaloo (registrato a Parigi nel 2001), pubblicano Haarp, cd live registrato nel rinnovato stadio di Wembley (altra tappa che sembra importante per ogni gruppo UK) il 16 giugno del 2007. Insieme al cd è uscito anche un DVD che contiene sia codesta esibizione, che quella del giorno dopo. L'album è stato molto pubblicizzato, vuoi per il luogo, vuoi per il fatto che ha fatto registrare il tutto esaurito in entrambe le date, ma purtroppo, come accade spesso, tanta pubblicità non corrisponde alla qualità dell'album.
I vari pezzi rendono magnificamente live, e chi segue con costanza Bellamy e soci sa che è una di quelle band che dà tutto live (anche se la voce di Matt sembra leggermente sottotono rispetto al solito). Distorsioni, improvvisasioni durante i pezzi (stupenda quella durante Butterflies & Hurricanes, pezzo che io letteralmente adoro) e effetti elettronici la fanno da padrone, come in ogni live dei Muse. Bellamy e soci ci metto davvero l'anima in questo Live, si spogliano della loro aura di star per far divertire il pubblico, cosa che dovrebbe far qualsiasi band che si ritrova nella fortuna di aver una platea così sterminata. La tracklist in sè è davvero buona, anche se non ci son due grandi classici della band come "Plug Me Baby" e "Feeling Good" (presenti nel DVD), ma ci son quasi tutti i pezzi che ogni fan dei Muse dovrebbe saper a memoria. I pezzi in sè, come detto, vengono quasi esaltati dal Live, rendono bene (toccante la versione unplugged di Unintended). Il pubblico è davvero caldo (fin troppo, come vedremo), e canta ogni singola nota della band. Quindi sulla carta sembrerebbe un buon album live...
Peccato per la qualità del registrato. A volte sembra che più di un album live ufficiale sembra di ascoltare uno dei tanti Bootleg che girano per la rete. Gli urletti isterici a volte coprono il cantanto di Bellamy e anche la stessa band. I pezzi non si sentono a volte affatto bene, e la qualità generale del CD è davvero non buona. Ed è un peccato, una caduta di stile per i produttori, ma anche per i stessi Muse, che di solito curano in ogni dettaglio i loro dischi. A volte sembra che abbiano voluto aver fretta di far uscire questo cd, anche se la richiesta di un Live era sì massiccia, ma non fino a questo punto. Si poteva aspettare un altrò pò, e poi magari curar meglio la qualità del suono, e ripulirlo.
In definitiva quello che sulla carta sembra un buon album, purtroppo si rovina con le stesse mani. Consigliato, ma solo a coloro che son fan. Per chi vuole avvicinarsi a loro posso consigliare Black Horse and Revelation.
