Pensando a qualche album che non avesse ancora una recensione su DeBaser mi è saltato alla mente "Trafalgar" (1971) dei Bee Gees.
Me lo ha fatto conoscere mio padre qualche anno fa' me ne sono innamorato quasi immediatamente. In Italia ebbe un discreto successo, scalando le classifiche di vendita fino alle prime posizioni. Attenzione, non aspettatevi la disco music tipo la "Febbre del Sabato Sera" (che uscirà solo nel 1977), "Trafalgar" è musica leggera nella sua concezione più pura. Le melodie che tirano fuori i tre fratelli Gibb (supportati da Alan Kendall alla chitarra solista e Joeff Bridgford alla batteria) non mancano mai il bersaglio. Il pianoforte e le orchestrazioni tendono a far fuoriuscire lacrime a volontà, grazie anche all'atmosfera densa di pathos che pervade l'album.
Il disco è dedicato interamente all'ammiraglio inglese Horation Nelson e alla vittoria del 1805 che conseguì nella battaglia di Trafalgar ai danni di Napoleone. Rimanere indifferenti verso le 12 canzoni di questo LP è un compito arduo se non impossibile. Difficile comunque che piaccia ai fans più accaniti dell'hard rock e dell'heavy metal. Niente di innovativo o stupefacente, semplicemente stupendo.
E' notte. Mi metto sul letto e faccio partire "Trafalgar". Il buio e la musica fuori e dentro me. Comincio a pensare, non ho una meta precisa, intanto fiumi di melodie scavano ancor più in profondità. Voltandomi indietro non riesco più ad intravedere la luce, un sorriso fugge ed io con lui. Vorrei ricominciare da zero ma ormai sono avanti anni luce. Nell'aria voci strazianti che esaltano la memoria. Piango e non sono mai stato così bene. Questo è "Trafalgar".
