"Il nostro nuovo album sarà più duro e più anni '80 rispetto a The Poison".
E bene la prima cosa che si evince ascoltando il ritorno dei gallesi Bullet For My Valentine, è che in realtà il tanto atteso 'Trash' è presente solo a sprazzi sulla loro ultima fatica "Scream Aim Fire" in uscita oggi 28/01.
A diversi anni di distanza dai precedenti lavori (l'album di debutto "The Poison" può essere considerato un esperimento con più risultati, infatti si suddivise in plurime versioni con tanto di bonus track sparse qua e la), il genere che si può attribuire alla band è sempre quello: "Emotional Metalcore"; non c'è alternativa, lo dimostra la diversità di stile presente nell'album, vedesi la dolcissima "Hearts Burst Into Fire" seguita immediatamente dalla più dura e 'Metallica' "Waking The Demon", senza ovviamente snobbare la buona title-track "Scream, Aim, Fire" che rimanda tantissimo (fin troppo) alla più conosciuta "Master Of Puppets" dei Metallica.
Per poter dare un giudizio obiettivo, l'album deve essere ascoltato almeno 2-3 volte, ed è dopo codesti ascolti che si nota lo splendore di "Deliver Us From Evil", a mio avviso pezzo migliore del CD. Certamente non supporta lo spirito Metalcore dell'album, ma la miscela vocale tipicamente Bullet (Vocals/Scream) interpretata da Matt Tuck in studio, con la collaborazione (soprattutto in live) di Michael Padget è praticamente perfetta. Non manca l'attento lavoro alla batteria di Michael Thomas, sempre pronto ad accelelare in caso di 'pericolo sonnolenza'.
Nella prima parte dell'album, da sottolineare anche l'ottimo secondo singolo "Eye Of The Storm", parlo di prima parte perchè come nel precedente album, anche in "Scream, Aim, Fire" si nota una netta linea separatrice a metà viaggio, infatti dalla settima traccia "Take In Out On Me" in poi, l'album inizia clamorosamente a scemare, vedesi "Say Goodnight", ballata sulla falsariga di "One", grande successo della già citata band di Hetfield & Company, ma l'emulazione questa volta sembra non aver portato grandi risultati. Si va avanti fino a chiudere con la tonica "Last To Know", unica nota positiva della seconda parte dell'album e con la soporifera "Forever And Always", anche in questo caso il Metal sembra essere lontano anni luce, il merchandising invece sembra essere spudoratamente a portata di mano.
In conclusione 'squadra che vince non si cambia', la pozione vincente di "The Poison" funziona ancora, che lo vogliate o no l'Emo-Metalcore è di moda, a dispetto della copertina e del roboante titolo, questo album è più Emotional che Metalcore.
7 su 10, tradotto in Debaser-voto sarebbe 3,5 quindi 3 stelle punitive per la mancata, ma tanto osannata evoluzione anni '80. Sia chiaro non è una bocciatura, bensi un invito a fare un ulteriore e definitivo passo in avanti.

è innegabile come i nostri suonino potentissimi (d'altronde con Colin Richardson al mixer anche mia nonna che monta i bianchi d'uovo avrebbe un sound boombastico)
Waking the Demon si apre con un riffing a là Machine Head ultima maniera e prosegue bilanciando in maniera ottimale rabbia e melodia

Dategli una chitarra, una batteria, un basso e un'altra chitarra, fategli incidere un po' di rumore ordinato in maniera tale da sembrare lontanamente musica ed avrete uno degli act più sensazionali del secolo.
Se questi sono i risultati, per ora siamo decisamente molto lontani dal traguardo della sufficienza.

Thrash nella forma, ma poco nella sostanza, per poterli paragonare anche lontanamente ai Four Horseman.
