Atteso come back per i Bullet For My Valentine, assorti agli onori delle cronache all'epoca del fortunato debutto "The Poison" come la risposta europea alla nuova sensazione d'oltreoceano di nome Trivium.
Alla luce del revival "nu-trhash" operato da Heafy e soci ero curioso di vedere se anche la band gallese avrebbe operato una svolta nel proprio sound, ma è sufficente inserire il CD nel lettore per accorgersi che poco o nulla è cambiato in casa Tuck, in cui il menù fisso prevede sempre un antipasto emo seguito da una portata metalcore accompagnata da un vinello D.O.C. rigorosamente invecchiato di vent'anni.
L'inizio affidato alla scoppiettante title-track "Scream Aim Fire" ci catapulta nel nuovo lavoro e la prima impressione è quella di trovarsi di fronte ai Metallica intenti a suonare "Master of Puppets" con un endorsment firmato Guitar Hero e Fisher Price invece che ESP e Tama: fuor di metafora è innegabile come i nostri suonino potentissimi (d'altronde con Colin Richardson al mixer anche mia nonna che monta i bianchi d'uovo avrebbe un sound boombastico) e dannatamente efficaci, anche se con un retrogusto plasticoso non indifferente se paragonati ai loro numi tutelari...
Sulle stesse coordinate si muove la seguente "Eye of the Storm", altra song tiratissima destinata a fare sfracelli dal vivo, nella quale è possibile apprezzare anche l'ottimo lavoro del batterista Moose: da notare la presenza all'altezza del chorus dell'effetto "clap clap", tanto ruffiano (ormai non lo usano più nemmeno band sleaze come gli Hardcore Superstar) quanto efficace anche in questo contesto.
Un delicato arpeggio ci introduce la terza traccia "Hearts Burn into Fire" che, per quanto pericolosamente vicina all'emocore più laccato, si segnala come una delle più ispirate del lotto in virtù di un chorus davvero efficace e di armonie catchy degne dei migliori Silverstein: semplicemente irresistibile pur nella sua semplicità!
Siamo alla posizione numero quattro e, quando ormai la frangia sembra aver occluso la visuale dei nostri, ecco che arriva il pezzo che non ti aspetti: "Waking the Demon" si apre con un riffing a là Machine Head ultima maniera (si senta "Imperium", opener del penultimo "Trough the Ashes of Empire") e prosegue bilanciando in maniera ottimale rabbia e melodia, per uno degli episodi meglio riusciti del disco.
Notevoli anche la seguenti "Disappear" e "Deliver us from Evil", che, pur non apportando sostanziali novità rispetto a quanto fin qui sentito, si lasciano ascoltare tutta d'un fiato grazie agli efficaci cori gentilmente offerti dalla coppia Matt e Jay, così come piacevole è anche la ultra-catchy "Take it out on me", caratterizzata da vocalizzi più melodici: lo stesso non si può purtroppo dire della soporifera "Say Goodnight", in cui i nostri giocano la carta della semi-ballad sullo stile di "One" e/o "The Unforgiven" e/o "Nothing Else Matters", senza però avere un briciolo dello spessore emotivo di Hetfield e soci.
L'esperimento è tentato con risultati se possibili ancora peggiori in occasione della conclusiva Forever and always, mentre nel mezzo si trovano la canonica "End of Days" e la divertente "Last to Know", laddove quest'ultima funge da vera e propria ancora di salvataggio nella valle di lacrime emo causata dalle due ballad di cui sopra.In conclusione questo secondo lavoro, nonostante qualche sbadiglio di troppo nella seconda metà della tracklist, conferma i BFMV, insieme ai succitati Trivium e agli omnipresenti Avenged Sevenfold, tra i migliori newcomers della scena "mainstream metal" del terzo millennio: se poi tra vent'anni sentiremo ancora parlare di loro o meno è un'ardua sentenza che lascio volentieri ai posteri....nel frattempo corro a riascoltarmi "Scream Aim Fire", almeno fino all'arrivo del nuovo Heaven Shall Burn!!

Dategli una chitarra, una batteria, un basso e un'altra chitarra, fategli incidere un po' di rumore ordinato in maniera tale da sembrare lontanamente musica ed avrete uno degli act più sensazionali del secolo.
Se questi sono i risultati, per ora siamo decisamente molto lontani dal traguardo della sufficienza.

Thrash nella forma, ma poco nella sostanza, per poterli paragonare anche lontanamente ai Four Horseman.
