Prendete quattro ragazzi della provincia gallese un po' incazzati col mondo, dategli una chitarra, una batteria, un basso e un'altra chitarra, fategli incidere un po' di rumore ordinato in maniera tale da sembrare lontanamente musica ed avrete uno degli act più sensazionali del secolo, i Bullet For My Valentine.
Nati nel 2003 a Bridgend, i BFMV altro non sono che l'ennesimo gruppo Metalcore con sfumature emo, pronto a calcare per qualche anno la scena, sin quando (speriamo presto) così come sono arrivati, se ne andranno. Dopo un album, uscito per ben tre volte in altrettante differenti versioni (classica, re-issue e Deluxe), eccoli riaffacciarsi sul mercato discografico nel 2007 con l'ennessimo prodotto pseudo-musicale adatto alle masse di fan addormentati che si accontentano di un album piatto, pieno di melodie tanto zuccherose da causare il diabete, strutture che più elementari non si può e testi al limite della demenza.
"Scream, Aim, Fire", questo il titolo del capolavoro, è un lavoro piuttosto semplice e lineare, che si sviluppa tutto nello stesso modo, presentando delle canzoni costruite tutte nella forma più classica di strofa-ritornello-strofa-ritornello-"assolo"-ritornello, basato come si diceva prima su melodie abbastanza di facile presa, venate di una sottile quanto costruita malinconia, e sulle quali si adagia sempre la voce piuttosto anonima a dirla tutta di Matthew Tuck, intento a tessere linee vocali ora pulite e smielate, ora più "acide", proponendo uno scream abbastanza innocuo e poco aggressivo.
Delle otto canzoni qui presenti nessuna spicca ne per originalità nè per gradevolezza, e pur non risultando brutta in maniera assoluta, rischiano ben presto di annoiare a proprio a causa della piattezza generale. Qualcosa da salvare in tutto questa c'è, si notano infatti dei riffs piacevoli sparsi qua e la, ne sono esempio i riffs portanti di "Disappear" e "Waking The Demon", ed anche alcune linee vocali non sono poi tanto male, ed ancora una volta è "Waking The Demon" a svettare su tutte le canzoni del lotto, ma sembra davvero troppo poco per giustificare l'acquisto o l'ascolto per intero del disco.
Spiace dover stroncare un gruppo ancora molto giovane che probabilmente avrà tutto il tempo per migliorarsi, ma se questi sono i risultati, per ora siamo decisamente molto lontani dal traguardo della sufficienza, dal momento che qualche melodia azzeccata non fa di un album un buon album.
Bocciati con davvero poche riserve.

è innegabile come i nostri suonino potentissimi (d'altronde con Colin Richardson al mixer anche mia nonna che monta i bianchi d'uovo avrebbe un sound boombastico)
Waking the Demon si apre con un riffing a là Machine Head ultima maniera e prosegue bilanciando in maniera ottimale rabbia e melodia

Thrash nella forma, ma poco nella sostanza, per poterli paragonare anche lontanamente ai Four Horseman.
