Tra tutta la musica (buona o pseudotale) che ascolto da una vita, ho avuto sempre uno scheletro nell'armadio: il punk rock e su tutti i Blink 182. So benissimo quanto cazzoni, superficiali e commerciali fossero, ma le loro superorecchiabili melodie unite ad un gran ritmo me li hanno sempre fatti sentire con piacere e il loro posto nel Porta CD in auto non lo perdono mai.
Dopo il loro scioglimento, non mi interessai più di tanto, se non che un giorno in un negozio riconobbi in un disco il faccione di Tom De Longe. Angel & Airwaves: I-Empire, il disco. Compre e metto subito nel settore dell'auto... tappeto di tastiere... mah... dopo 30 secondi capisco che di Blink non ci sarà neanche l'ombra. "Call to arms"... ma dov'è il cazzone che faceva della volgarità il suo credo artistico? Scorre tutto il disco e alla fine mi dico che non potevano non dividersi i Blink. Sonorità molto soffuse, tastiere molto presenti, suono pulitissimo (chi ha ascoltato Enema of the State si ricorda che a volte non distingueva il suono degli strumenti), quindi ottima produzione... ottima voce... (registrare studio fa miracoli, ho visto Tom dal vivo su You Tube... orrendo). Occhio, non è mica un capolavoro (gli oh oh, i da da da, gli yoeo si sprecano) ma è davvero qualcosa che non mi aspettavo, dove le solite melodie orecchiabili si uniscono ad una pulizia di una potenza del suono davvero sorprendenti (la batteria è impressionante). Domanda finale: Tom de Longe è davvero cresciuto o è un altro dei suoi scherzi?

P.S.: ho poi comprato l'album dei +44, il gruppo con gli altri due ex componenti dei Blink (Mark Hoppus e Travis Barker): non c'è paragone.
