New Riders of the Purple Sage sono una band americana di country rock formata a San Francisco nel 1969, nota per la fusione di country e rock e per la stretta associazione con membri dei Grateful Dead.

La band fu fondata da John Dawson e David Nelson. Jerry Garcia dei Grateful Dead suonò il pedal steel con il gruppo nelle prime fasi e fu strettamente legata alla scena del San Francisco Bay Area alla fine degli anni '60 e inizio anni '70.
