Che Chris Cornell avesse una gran bella voce e una capacità interpretativa superiore alla media lo sapevamo già, amanti e non dei Soundgarden si arrendano alla palese verità: 'sto tipo sa il fatto suo.
Ma su un lavoro solista, senza il supporto di una band carica di differenti influenze e ispirazioni, come se la caverà?
Benissimo.
In quest'album il vecchio (mica tanto) Chris riesce a miscelare sapientemente le influenze e le passioni rock di sempre (il sound settantiano e bluesy) con l'amore per il cantautorato pop rock (il fantasma di Jeff Buckley è richiamato in piú di una canzone) aggiungendo il suo personalissimo gusto della melodia e del gorgheggio "alternative".
L'incipit "Can't Change Me" (primo singolo) chiarisce subito le idee sui toni sfumati dell'album (degno di nota anche il reprise finale in francese con una fisarmonica bohemien), ma segnalare alcune song a dispetto di altre mi sembra poco adatto ad un album che va ascoltato senza interruzioni dall'inizio alla fine, e magari arrivati lí deciderete di rimetterlo dalla track 1... come faccio io adesso.
