Ci sono dischi che ti aiutano a vivere meglio. Come "Endtroducing....", album d'esordio di Josh Davis, geniale manipolatore di suoni noto ai più come DJ Shadow. Pubblicato nel 1996 per la Mo' Wax, "Endtroducing...." è un disco rivoluzionario quanto geniale, un lavoro che libera la musica Hip-Hop da tutti i suoi clichè e le fa spiccare il volo verso dimensioni fino ad allora sconosciute, un'esperienza emozionale difficilmente descrivibile con parole.
In 13 tracce tutte strumentali, intervallate da brevi interludi, il nostro DJ Ombra realizza un'opera incredibile da ogni punto di vista, spaziando tra momenti intimi e passaggi di pura epicità che non finiscono di sorprendere l'ascoltatore. Una volta inserito il cd nello stereo, si passa con facilità dallo straordinario crescendo di "Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt" ai deliri ritmici di "The Number Song" e "Stem/Long Stem" (davvero magnifica), e, man mano che prosegue l'ascolto, si incontrano altre perle disseminate qua e là come la lenta ed ipnotica "What Does Your Soul Look Like (Part. 4)", "Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain" ed i suoi continui cambi di tempo e registro, la coinvolgente "Organ Donor", fino alla totale catarsi della axelrodina e stupenda "Midnight In A Perfect World" (a buon intenditor poche parole...), vero capolavoro del disco e, personalmente, una delle più belle canzoni degli anni '90.
DJ Shadow, insomma, riesce nel suo intento e, oltre a ricevere notorietà a livello mondiale, finisce con il creare un caleidoscopio di suoni prossimo alla perfezione e dalle molteplici ispirazioni (Tangerine Dream, Metallica, il già citato David Axelrod, la blaxploitation anni '70, addirittura Michele Zarrillo!), un tributo alla musica a 360 gradi che trascende qualsiasi tentativo di classificazione o definizione.
Un disco fondamentale per chiunque voglia approfondire il panorama musicale della decade appena trascorsa (e quando parlo di panorama musicale non intendo solo rock!) e, in generale, da avere in qualsiasi collezione che si rispetti. Voto: n.g.
