A parer di qualcuno, possono anche avere esagerato. Ma il risultato finale è sorprendente! Troviamo a rendere il tutto più maestoso oltre al gruppo (e quindi alla splendida voce della Simons) tre violinisti, tre violoncellisti, sei coriste e due coristi.
Il DVD si apre con "Façade of Reality", song fantastica non solo dal punto di vista musicale, ma anche per quanto riguarda la profondità di ogni singola parola del testo. Durante un'intermezzo prettamente orchestrale, si ode una voce recitare:
"Per quelle persone che hanno perso la loro vita l'11 settembre e coloro che li piangono; ora è il momento di tirare fuori la forza per costruire una comunità. Facciamo sì che sia il loro monumento alla memoria".
"Façade of Reality" è caratterizzata da continui cambi di velocità e dal consueto botta e risposta tra la voce angelica di Simone e il potente growl & scream di Mark. E' una canzone parecchio heavy (soprattutto nell'intro) e che gli amanti del metal sinfonico sapranno amare a sufficienza.
Si continua con la filosofica "Sensorium", interpretata in modo magistrale da Simone, e perché no, resa parecchio interessante dalla presenza del coro che (e questo si nota) si impegna molto non solo dal punto di vista vocale, ma anche da quello del coinvolgimento: i continui gesti d'intesa, i sorrisi che si scambiano la Simons e alcuni componenti di esso fanno comprendere l'affiatamento e l'armonia che regna in quello studio.
La terza traccia è "Illusive Consensus", canzone dal testo profondo, ma poco significativa musicalmente parlando.
Proseguendo troviamo "Cry For The Moon", una vera perla generata dal genio di Mark. Testo di denuncia contro i comportamenti errati della Chiesa, musica come mai orchestrale ma al contempo heavy, grazie al potente growl del chitarrista-cantante-compositore (un tuttofare, in sostanza) e resa visivamente interessante dagli headbanging del gruppo e dall'incantevole Simone, che in questa traccia sforna il meglio di sé tirando fuori un vibrato lirico sorprendente.
Si passa a "The Phantom Agony", dove è quasi il coro a farne da padrone (intro, ritornello e varie parti delle canzoni cantate interamente da quest'ultimo) insieme alla voce di Jansen. La cosa che si nota è sicuramente la lunghezza della canzone (9:10 min), che però non compromette l'ascolto, non essendo mai banale ma avendo, così come per "Façade of Reality" continui cambi di velocità.
La prima parte intitolata "The Works" si conclude con la maledettamente heavy "Seif Al Din", un po' fuori dagli schemi (doppio pedale a raffica in diversi punti, growl come main voice e strumenti arabeggianti), forse la più interessante da ascoltare, ma sicuramente non la migliore canzone prodotta dagli Epica.
La seconda parte, intitolata "Acoustic", contiene tre canzoni suonate con pianoforte e violoncello e cantate dalla Simons e dalle due coriste principali. Grazie a queste tre tracce possiamo apprezzare a fondo l'angelica voce di Simone, e, perché no, rilassarci, dopo l'emozione del heavy metal dal vivo.
La terza parte è il making del DVD, che si può vedere sia senza sottotitoli, che con i sottotitoli in inglese. Nulla di male per chi l'inglese lo sa, ma coloro che non lo masticano a sufficienza dovranno limitarsi a sentire la Simons e gli altri dire cose incomprensibili.
Passiamo ora agli "Extra", dove troviamo i music video di "The Phantom Agony", "Feint" ed i loro rispettivi making, che però hanno la stessa pecca del making del DVD. Continuando ci vengono "presentati" i coristi ("The Voices Of The Phantom Agony"), dopodichè possiamo goderci lo "Slide Show", ovvero le foto più significative del "2 Meter Sessies" e leggere la discografia degli Epica.
Concludendo, un DVD esaltante, soprattutto per chi ama il Symphonyc (presente!) e, di conseguenza, per chi adora gli Epica. Le uniche pecche sono gli "Extra", poco interessanti (forse totalmente inutili) per coloro che non conoscono l'olandese o, peggio, che ignorano l'inglese.
