Se il blues è la musica del diavolo, il blues è Robert Johnson. Spero che il diavolo mi aiuterà a scrivere questa recensione, come aiutò Robert a scrivere il suo repertorio, quelle 29 canzoni "maledette", che molti grandi artisti hanno riproposto nel corso della storia della musica.
Ascoltando "Me and Mr. Johnson" di Clapton ho preso un minuto per riflettere e per un attimo ho pensato che il sig. Johnson non è morto, è rivenuto in terra e ha inciso questo album, insieme a Eric e la sua band, in qualche modo si sente la sua presenza. Per questo album "slowhand" ha percorso tutte le tappe di registrazione di Robert Johnson, creando così un'atmosfera degna di un vero bluesman del Mississippi, è sconvolgente come Clapton abbia potuto "reincarnare" il padre del blues Statunitense.
In questo album troviamo 14 tracce di puro (e dico puro) blues, eseguite in maniera quasi maniacale, nei minimi particolari, con artisti di un certo "calibro" tra cui il mitico, ma che dico mitico, quasi "mitologico tastierista "Billy Preston" scomparso nel 2005.
Nota critica: troppo perfetto, che non è solo un pregio, forse Mr. Johnson intendeva un blues un po più rude, grezzo, ma un'ottima interpretazione. Se Robert sarebbe ancora vivo sarebbe fiero di un figlio come Eric...
