Incuriosito dalla soffiata trapelata in alcune riviste specializzate, secondo cui la più probabile candidata a sostituire la turunen dei Nightwish sarebbe tale Lady Angellyca, sono andato, ovviamente, prima ad accertarmi delle fattezze della stessa, per decidere, poi, se comprare o meno l'album del suo gruppo dal nome Forever Slave (X le girls: Scusate se vi risulto un pò maschilista, vi posso assicurare che non è il modo in cui faccio acquisti di solito).
Sopresa delle soprese chi mi sono trovato di fronte? La sorella gemella della Turunen. Del resto, era la scelta più scontata. Holopainen e soci non sono così pazzi da rinunciare alla immagine che si sono creata in questi anni e che, soprattutto con il loro ultimo album Once, gli ha portati al successo commerciale.
Ebbene acquisto il debut album dei Forever Slave, dal titolo Alice's Inferno, e procedo all'ascolto. Premetto che dando un'occhiata alle foto della band e dalla impaginatura del loro sito, li avevo già catalogati come una delle tante gothic metal bands che imputtanano la scena musicale metal del momento. Non sbagliavo. In questo album ci sono tutte le componenti del gothic female metal che contraddistinguono attualmente centinaia di gruppi: la voce molto dolce della Angellyca (anch'essa molto somigliante a quella di Tarja), il contrasto con il growl maschile, melodie struggenti e potenti chitarre di sottofondo. Insomma un dejà vu.
Non fraintendetemi, nel complesso un album che si fà ascoltare (i cui picchi, a mio parere, sono da ricercare in "In the Forest", "Circle of Tenebra" e "Dreams and Dust"), suonato complessivamente bene, ma niente di nuovo sotto il sole. Il paragone con i Theathre of Tragedy, gli Epica, gli After Forever, ecc. ecc. ecc. viene facile e questi Forever Slave, con furbizia e mestiere, cercano di inserirsi in quel filone. L'elemento di originalità, in effetti, c'è ma, come avete capito, non riguarda l'aspetto musicale. Il presente Alice's Inferno è infatti un concept album, in quanto racconta le gesti, a quanto pare, di un ragazzo che scende nell'inferno in una sorta di rivisitazione dell'Inferno di Dante. In conclusione, di questi spagnoli Forever Slave, se poi effettivamente la cantante lasciasse per andare in Finlandia, non credo che ne si sentirebbe la mancanza.
