L'impero di cristallo, terzo lavoro dei tedeschi powettari che con la loro musica (definita gay metal a causa della sua allegria) si stanno facendo conoscere in tutto il mondo. Un album mezzo gradino al di sotto di "Eternity" e "Stairway to fairyland" ma che non si scosta dagli ottimi lavori dei Freedom Call.
Passiamo ad analizzare le canzoni del disco. L'album si apre con The king of the crystal empire, intro che ci proietta verso Freedom Call stupenda song che sicuramente diventerà cavallo di battaglia di questa band e verrà riproposta molte volte in sede live (inizio molto vagamente simile a Fear of the dark [come suono musicale, non paragonabile al capolavoro dei Maiden]). Poi incontriamo Rise up e Farewell. La prima non coinvolge molto ma comunque si ascolta con facilità, mentre la seconda è introdotta da tutti i membri della band (che la cantano insieme per un breve periodo) e poi si ascolta la tipica canzone dei Freedom, allegra, spensierata e innocente. Ma ecco arrivati a Pharao ottima song con un veloce intro di tastiera che si avvicina al gotico e si prosegue con i soliti ritornelli a cori cantati molto bene da Bay.
Continuando ad ascoltare il disco arriva prepotentemente Call of fame (simile nella parte iniziale a Dancing with tears in my eyes) quest'ultima presente nell'lp "Taragon". Si giunge a Heart of the rainbow con un bell'intro di tastiera che ricorda i 'Rhapsody'. Poi ecco arrivare The quest (canzone più lunga mai composta dai Freedom Call, oltre 7 minuti) e Ocean molto bella, potente, veloce con Bay e Dan che svolgono un'ottima prova.
Chiudono l'album Palace of fantasy e The wanderer altre canzoni spensierate, allegre che scorrono veloci e godibili. Un altro buon album per i tedeschi accusati di non fare metal perchè le loro canzoni vengono definite troppo gioiose e questo non ci può stare in questo tipo di musica.
Ma i Freedom Call continuano a stupire e a sfornare buoni album ma soprattutto smentono coloro che li accusano (abbastanza ingiustamente). Continuate così.
