"Glory to the brave" è il primo indimenticato capolavoro degli hammerfall uscito nel 1997 segna la ripresa del power anni 80, riportando del fresco al genere e ripronendo sonorita di gruppi indimenticabili come warlord, manowar, hellowen e in parte blind guardian.
I testi variano dalle navicelle spaziali ai spadoni alle morti delle persone care, quindi sono stati scritti per raccontare delle storie o per intrannere il pubblico, nel classico stile anni 80. Passiamo all'analisi dell'album. Il cd parte con dragon lies bledding molto veloce e buon lavoro di batteria e dei bei cori e chitarre melodiche e una canzone veloce e molto epica allo stesso tempo. Si passa poi a metal age, che incide con il ritmo del power anni 80 stile grezzo, nel testo si parla di una dimensione parallela dominata dal metallo, si notano molto i riff di chitarra, una buona canzone per essere riproprosta live. Poi passiamo alla canzone che da il nome alla band cioè "hammerfall" qui il gruppo si autocelebra con una canzone veloce e melodica da urlare a squarciagola.

Poi si passa a una ballad veramente commovente come i believe pezzo struggente a cui si alternano pezzi lenti e leggeri al coro centrale; i riff di chitarra si fanno piu pesanti per dare dramma alla canzone; questa canzone ha un testo molto bello. Poi si arriva alla cover dei loro amati eroi warlord children of the damned tratta dal album "deliver us". Si ritorna poi alle spade in stells meet stells, canzone dedicati ai templari; anche questo in stile anni 80 con ritmi trascinanti e coro da urlare. Si continua con stone cold un buon pezzo ci sono da segnalare i riff di chitarra all'inizio. Arriva unchained canzone trascinante in doppia cassa in sottofondo. Arriviamo alla titletrack glory to brave questa canzone è un capolavoro, vi farà commuovere ad ogni ascolto, non credo che una canzone power vi commuova cosi tanto, un epic ballad da un testo struggente che parte con 3 minuti di arpeggi poi arriva la voce cristallina di joacin cans che ci introduce in questo racconto. Poi si sale d'intensita per arrivare a un bel coro pomposo ed epico. Il testo parla della tristezza per la perdita di un eroe che comunque vive nei ricordi nelle persone, grazie alla sua gesta e per questa va riposare nella sala degli impavidi (brave).
In conclusione questo album del 1997 è un capolavoro del power metal, uno dei migliori album power; non credo che un album power mi emozioni e vi commuova cosi tanto; ha segnato una netta rinascita del power metal che era sommerso da gruppi porno grind ristagnante. Questi ragazzi hanno riportanto in auge il power metal e dobbiamo rendergli merito e gli diamo ragione; questo album è un piccolo gioello del power metal degli ultimi anni.
