Dopo essere stato creato da geni della manipolazione elettronica, come i Massive Attack, il trip -hop rischiava di divenire una forma usata ed abusata in cui tutto era stato già detto, tutto già sentito. La voce di Beth Gibbons dei Portishead ha dato nuovi spunti, spesso anche più dark, degli stessi Massive creando vere e proprie colonne sonore che ormai ritroviamo un po' ovunque.
Proprio da Bristol, terra natale del trip-hop, gli Ilya danno nuova linfa vitale a questo genere. Meno minimalisti dei Portishead, poco più solari degli ultimi Massive Attack, in "They Died For Beauty" troviamo ritmi e melodie più vicine alle tendenze contemporanee.
Già nel singolo "Bellissimo" sembra di percepire, oltre all'omaggio all'Italia, delle sonorità ascoltate con i "Gare Du Nord" (mai ascoltato "Profondo Blu?). La voce della Swan non taglia come quella della Gibbons ("Heavenly", "Pretty Baby") ed è meno vellutata della prima Goldfrapp ("Bliss", "Quattra Neon"). Grazie agli Ilya la colonna sonora cresce e si evolve. Meglio così.
