L'album che sto per recensire è il nuovo lavoro dei canadesi Kataklysm, che ci propongono un Death Metal potente e violento consfumature apocalittiche veramente devastanti. L'album si apre con la canzone "Like Angels weeping (The Dark)" in cui si uniscono melodia e distorsione per poi sfociare in riff di chitarra potentissimi. Nel secondo brano, "Let them Burn", si alternano la voce bassa e devastante del cantante a una seconda voce più stridula e urlato, forse del chitarrista o del bassista. Il terzo brano si intitola "Crippled and Broken" e inizia con un riffone lento e pesante che ti schiaccia i timpani, poi diventa velocissima e inizia il cantante con un growl ancora più basso e oscuro che nelle altre canzoni, veramente lodevole il lavoro del batterista, che batte ritmi velocissimi. La quarta canzone, "To Reign Again", inizia con un malinconico arpeggio di chitarra pulita, poi partono riff bassi e cupi, bellissimo il giro di basso all' interno della traccia. Nella quinta canzone, "It Turns to Rust", si alternano ancora due voci, il chitarrista suona riff veloci, lenti e alcuni melodici creando bellissimi contrasti. Nel sesto brano intitolato "Open Scars" c'é un bellissimo assolo, peccato che si sente poco e viene sovrastato dai dalle chitarre ritmiche. Il settimo brano, "Temptations Nest", è una vera e propria orgia di riff, con tantissimi cambi di tempo. La penultima traccia, "In Words of Desperation", inizia col solito suono pulito/distorto per poi passare a chitarre basse e stoppate. L'ultima canzone, "The Road to Devastation" , e la più lunga e la più lenta dell'album, bellissimo l'assolo prima melodico poi veloce, alla fine si sentono violini e voci scombinate e un orologio, poi solo l'orologio e poi finisce.
Veramente bello questo disco, forse il loro migliore, sarebbe perfetto se ci fossero più assoli.
