Devastante.
La dimostrazione di come si può partorire un lavoro dalla violenza inaudita mantenendosi su livelli tecnici paurosi.
Dopo aver consolidato con “The Prophecy” e “Epic (The poetry of war)” la meritatissima posizione che oggi occupano nel panorama del metal estremo, tornano i canadesi Kataklysm che, con “Shadows & Dust”, ci ripropongono il loro inconfondibile marchio di fabbrica, fatto di un sound nel quale si sposano alla perfezione la ferocia del Death Core, la trascinante melodia del miglior Death Svedese e la malvagità del Black Metal più ispirato.
“Shadows & Dust” ci regala un gruppo in forma smagliante.
La sezione ritmica si muove come sempre su intervalli da cardiopalma, mostrando al contempo, però, un’agilità incredibile nell’alternare blastbeats scioccanti a momenti più rocciosi e cadenzati.
L’Impressionante ed oscuro riffing di J-F Dagenals sfocia sovente in felicissime aperture melodiche, grazie alle quali le composizioni mantengono una freschezza imprevista, evitando così di cadere nella claustrofobia surreale verso la quale certi pezzi sembrano inizialmente condurci.
Il drumming di Max Duhamel colpisce per la violenza e precisione, supportando un muro sonoro dallo spessore incredibile, sul quale Maurizio Jacono alterna un Growl mai esasperato allo Screaming più maligno.
La Title Track , “Beyond Salvation” “Illuminati” e “Face the face of War” rappresentano i momenti più coinvolgenti dell’album, anche se si ci troviamo di fronte ad uno di quei dischi che si fanno apprezzare più per l’ispirazione e l’atmosfera che si respira durante l’intero platter che per i singoli episodi.
È sempre con immenso piacere che si accolgono certi lavori, nei quali si respira la grande professionalità e dedizione che precede la registrazione, caratterizzata da una produzione direi quasi perfetta sia pur, per i miei gusti, un po’ troppo pulita e Swedish oriented.
Un ascolto lo consiglio a tutti, anche se potrà essere apprezzato fino in fondo soltanto da orecchie già avezze a certe sonorità.
