Lenny Kravitz è un fotomodello dietro il quale si cela un ottimo chitarrista;
amante di quella musica che ha fatto storia, che porta i nomi di Hendrix, Lennon e Prince e rendendogli tributo in molte delle sue canzoni, che per alcuni evocano ricordi e per altri sono semplicemente la ricerca di un sound mai trovato, che va a rispolverare il passato per farlo suonare nuovo e particolare, magari, per quelli a cui questi nomi non dicono gran che (sempre se ce ne siano).
Personalmente ho ascoltato Lenny Kravitz con il tanto criticato "5", che qualcosa di buono per me lo ha, per poi riscoprire i suoi lavori precedenti, che ho tra l'altro apprezzato, nonostante il mix di sonorità: non esattamente innovative e non sempre riuscitissime, ma che riescono a farsi ascoltare.
Curioso ho comprato questo CD, "Lenny" bhe ok il titolo non impressiona in quanto profondità, quanto non impressiona il suo faccione pompato in copertina,
che probabilmente avrà fatto fantasticare molte ragazzine;
L'album si apre bene con un buon rock facile di "Battlefield Of Love" che fa intuire il tema unico di questo album (l'amore), ma è con la traccia successiva che comincio ad avere dei dubbi, e infatti basta poco per scoprire che quelle che potevano essere delle ottime tracce come ad esempio "If I Could Fall In Love", "Believe In Me", sono inutilmente appesantite da suoni elettronici che sbucano un po ovunque in quest album facendo perdere quelle atmosfere vintage che avevano segnato la fortuna di questo artista, e cosi anche canzoni che sarebbero dovute suonare dirette come "Dig In" o "Pay To Play" risultano pompose e fanno storcere il naso;
per il resto c'è poco altro: le influenze soul che per anni lo hanno fatto osannare a "nuova icona della musica nera" ormai sono scomparse per lasciare spazio a un elettronica approssimativa che seppellisce nel nulla tutti gli spunti interessanti come i riff presenti in "You Where in My Heart", o ad un pop rock confuso ed inconcludente.
Quest album risulta per me trai peggiori lavori di Lenny Kravitz e anche i singoli estratti tra un riempitivo e l'altro, di certo non mi rimarranno impressi per quanto possano averli bombardati in radio, ma lasciano solo l'amaro in bocca per quello che potevano essere se arrangiati in maniera differente.
Probabilmente il fatto di essere produttore di se stessi e di occuparsi di tutti i suoni, ha il difetto, di eliminare chi puo darti un parere diverso, e magari un ceffone per farti tornare in studio a migliorare l'album.
