Originari della Florida, i Mayday Parade esordirono con questo ep di sei canzoni, "Tales Told By Dead Friends" nel 2006 e da lì pubblicarono altri due album in studio e un terzo che dovrebbe uscire fra non molto.
Riuscire a classificare questo ep non è facile, perchè è un misto fra il Pop-Punk, l'Emo (della "terza ondata", come ci ricorda la buona wiki) e l'Alternative Rock tipo A Day To Remember, (da cui sembrano essersi ispirati per molte delle loro canzoni, specie per il palm-mute esagerato con distorsore al massimo). Il risultato è qualcosa di già sentito, dove ad un primo ascolto le canzoni sembrano somigliarsi a vicenda, con alcune parti eccessivamente pop e con testi che trattano temi riguardanti l'adolescenza, l'amicizia o le prime relazioni. Le migliori canzoni sono senza dubbio "When I Get Home, You're So Dead" (che è stato registrata nuovamente e inserita nel loro album successivo "A Lesson in Romantics") e la conclusiva "The Last Something That Meant Anything" dove alla fine le due chitarre eseguono una specie di piccolo assolo che accompagna degnamente l' ascoltatore alla fine.
Insomma, un ep che a differenza di quelli di molte altre band, non mi è sembrato diverso dai loro lavori successivi (per quello che sono riuscito a sentire), potrebbe piacere ai fan degli A Day To Remember e agli amanti del pop-punk in generale, ma ripeto, in se non porta nessuna novità.
Una Curiosità... sono io che stò diventando pazzo oppure il design della scritta "Mayday Parade" nei loro album successivi "A Lesson In Romantic" e "Anywhere But Here" è la stessa dei Linkin Park periodo Minutes To Midnight???
