Quando mia madre si mette a criticare (sempre più raramente ormai, povera donna) le mie molteplici attività lavorative legate alla musica - che mi portano tanta gioia ma, a conti fatti, pochissimi fondi per sopravvivere - mi dice sempre: "Ma non potevi fare la dee-jay nei rave, che almeno ti facevi un bel po' di soldi?". Ogni volta mi mette in crisi, sì, perché mi dico che ha ragione e che se potessi tornare ai miei diciotto anni un pensierino in questo senso lo farei sul serio.
È con somma invidia, quindi, che seguo l'evoluzione di questa piccola grande donna, la tenace Miss Kittin, rinomata dj francese entrata prepotentemente di diritto nell'Olimpo del djing mondiale. Caroline Hervé, alias Miss Kittin, è la 31enne regina delle notti nei migliori rave e discoteche europei. Ex studentessa d'arte, a metà anni '90 ha cominciato ad esibirsi come dj a tempo pieno, e l'incontro con Michel Amato, alias The Hacker, ha fatto il resto portandola al gran successo internazionale ed a collaborazioni eccellenti con gente al top come Felix Da Housecat, Detroit Grand Pubhas, Sven Vath e Golden Boy. Quindi siamo di fronte ad una massima entità della club-culture internazionale. Tra i progenitori di quel genere che è stato definito electroclash (gli anni '80 rivisti in chiave techno-d'n'b), il suo stile inconfondibile ha contaminato una pletora d'emulatori emergenti in tutto il mondo, però lei, suadente strega in salsa soft-fetish, ne rimane in assoluto la Regina.
Ma Miss Kittin non è solo una fantastica assemblatrice di ritmi e sound, ha anche una coscienza musicale molto spiccata e questa volta ha deciso di regalarci un disco che lo dimostri. Nei negozi fresco di stampa ICom, il suo primo album solista in cui abbandona per un'ora i piatti da dj per indossare i panni della electro-punk sovversiva e rockeggiante. La Miss giustifica così questa sua deriva: "Sono cresciuta in una famiglia in cui si ascoltava di tutto, dai Supertramp a Miles Davis, dai Genesis a Vivaldi, dai Pink Floyd a Maria Callas. Per due anni i miei genitori hanno anche provato a farmi studiare pianoforte. Ma io ho preferito la danza. La mia adolescenza e stata attraversata dalla musica elettronica e dalla new wave. In dieci anni ho assorbito tutti i suoni che mi sono girati intorno. E questo è il risultato.". Ecco il motivo della mia invidia! Anch'io ho avuto dei genitori così, anch'io ho preferito la danza al pianoforte, anch'io ho assorbito tutti i suoni che mi sono girati intorno. La differenza è che lei è stata più furba di me, accipicchia!
Colmo di verve ed emozione, classe e savoir vivre, ICom è sorretto dalla sua inconfondibile voce, lievemente leziosa, e dalla sua esclusiva personalità. Difatti, s'inizia con il brano, nonché primo singolo, che già con il titolo la dice tutta, Professional Distortion. In questo brano Miss Kittin, tra chitarre elettronicamente modificate ed accattivante d'n'b, declama: "I have to sing, I have to tease, I have to kiss so many cheeks, I got the fave, I got the tricks, I have to put guest on the list…".
Tutti invitati alla festa quindi, al ritmo di queste trippose canzoni, traboccanti della miglior electro e di raffinate prospettive rock-pop. Ballerina e felina in Meet Sue Be She, sussurrata e suadente in I Come.com, emotiva e morbida in Happy Violentine, scaltramente retrò nella new wave di Kiss Factory e Sountrack For Now, cristallina e lirica su Dub About Me, elegantemente persuadente in Clone Me, ambiguamente panterosa e sensuale in 3eme Sexe… Miss Kittin saprà affascinarvi senza tregua: splendida "ragazzaccia", tutta da scoprire... in senso lato, naturalmente!
