Che gran disco ragazzi. "Altars of Madness" l'emblema del death metal che qualsiasi appassionato di questo, a mio avviso fantastico genere, dovrebbe avere nella sua dicografia. L'ho definito l'emblema del death metal ed è veramente così dato che non solo sarà da spunto per le successive generazioni di metallari, ma detterà le leggi fondamentali per la stesura di un album di questo genere.
Correva l'anno 1986, ed il mondo metal aveva gli occhi puntati verso il trash grezzo dei Slayer Metallica, e questo piccolo gruppetto aveva in mente di rivoluzionare, estremizzare il metal con un cantato growl mai provato prima e un sound più violento che mai. Di sicuro quel gruppo che il Sabato si ritrovava a suonare in un garage sarebbe diventato un gruppo di culto? Eh, chi lo sa se non loro.
Ma iniziamo ad analizzare meglio il dico. Tredici tracce dalla potenza catastrofica che arrivano pensantemente alla mente dell'ascoltatore che ne rimarrà fortemente colpito ed estasiato. Come dire che sono brutte canzoni come "Immortal Rites", "Maze Of Torment", "Damnation". Pietre miliari dove ogni nota ogni assolto ogni grido di dolore saranno considerati dall'opinione pubblica un capolavoro.
L'album è veloce potente a tratti melodico che ti trasporta nel buio più profondo degli inferi. La produzione è buona i suoni definiti; naturalmente non è ottima e perciò il suono sarà cupo (meglio cosi,no?). Allora accorrete tutti i buoni metallari devono avere questo album non averlo sarrebbe un sacrilegio (come definirsi metallari e non avere "Reign In Blood" degli Slayer o un qualsiasi album dei Metallica e/o Iron Maiden). Dunque in conclusione che dire? Grande prestazione per i Morbid Angel!!
