Aspettando il nuovo album della band di Tampa, Florida, mi è venuto in mente di vedere se per caso mancava qualche recensione della mia band preferita e così, scorrendo le pagine del sito, ho potuto constatare che "Entangled In Chaos" non era stato ancora esaminato da nessun utente, perciò ho pensato di provare a dire la mia su tale opera.
Per prima cosa preciso subito che si tratta di un live (dalla copertina sembra scontato, però per essere precisi mi sembra giusto ribardirlo), il primo per giunta, il quale presenta i Morbid Angel con la formazione di "Domination", cioè: Trey Azagthoth alla chitarra, Pete "Commando" Sandoval alla batteria, David Vincent al basso e voce, ed infine il buon Erik Rutan alla seconda chitarra (quest'ultimo ora nei suoi Hate Eternal). Dopo questa piccola introduzione direi di passare all'analisi vera e propria del disco in questione. Per me descrivere un live è una esperienza nuova e onestamente mi "spaventa" anche un po', visto che le canzoni che in genere sono presenti in tali uscite discografiche sono i cavalli di battaglia di un determinato gruppo e per questo motivo la loro validità, o meno, viene abbondantemente disquisita durante le recensione dello studio album che le contiene. In base a tale principio provo a strutturare la mia disamina articolandola in tre punti: 1. Produzione, intesa nella presenza oppure no (sempre a mio giudizio) di eventuali ritocchi in studio; 2. Stato di forma della band; 3. Tracklist.
Iniziando dalla produzione, vediamo che essa risulta essere abbastanza grezza e le chitarre sono un pelo sottotono, anche se le parti soliste del sempre ottimo Azagthoth risultano essere all'altezza delle aspettative, infatti abbiamo i soliti soli acidi, schizoidi e fortemente esaltanti che sono diventati il marchio di fabbrica della band americana, insieme al drumming dirompente di Sandoval. Su tali basi credo che ritocchi in fase di mix non ve ne siano stati.
Passando alla band direi che tutti offrono una prestazione sopra la media, Rutan è una degna spalla del già citato Trey Azagthoth, David Vincent mazzuola allegramente sul suo basso e ci incanta con il suo growl inconfondibile e mai fastidioso, ed infine come non parlare di Pete Sandoval, sempre presente, pronto e preciso come un metronomo, anche qui una prestazione da incorniciare.
L'ultimo punto purtroppo penalizza un po' questo disco dal vivo, infatti la tracklist (anche se di altissimo livello) secondo me doveva essere più corposa e coprire meglio la discografia del gruppo, infatti mancano gemme "Where The Slime Live", "God Of Emptiness" e "Caesar's Palace", tracce quest'ultime che avrebbero reso il tutto più completo. In conclusione un album dal vivo veramente ottimo, suonato in maniera impeccabile che con qualche traccia in più poteva essere un vero capolavoro!
