Un minuto e quarantun secondi di scioglilingua cantato a squarciagola da Tom Araya, la scheggia più pazza di quella devastazione sonora che porta il nome di “Reign in Blood”, l’album che è andato oltre ai confini all’epoca noti dell’estremo. Quale nome migliore per un gruppo nato con l’intento preciso di creare una forma più oscura di death metal?
Il fine ultimo dei Necrophobic all’inizio della loro carriera era gettare il death metal in un abisso ancora più nero di quello in cui già era venuto al mondo, rendere la musica oscura come la pece, fredda e distante, ma comunque carica di emozioni (negative ovviamente) e passione morbosa. Quindi melodie ammalianti e tentatrici fanno comunque capolino lungo il corso delle differenti canzoni di “The Nocturnal Silence”, album di debutto giunto alla luce nell’anno del Signore 1993, sorrette dalle classiche chitarre a motosega svedesi (Thomas Skogsberg docet) che grattugiano l’aria senza pietà con riff sempre ispirati e vari aiutate in qualche frangente dal tocco di plumbee tastirere. Vista a posteriori è una maniera molto black di intendere il death, tant’è che nel proseguo della sua storia la band virerà verso un genere ibrido tra i due, ma il bello di questo disco è che è death metal puro sotto tutti gli aspetti nonostante concettualmente voglia essere black metal, genere che all’epoca stava nascendo in Norvegia ma in Svezia non era ancora arrivato, basta ascoltare il debutto dei Marduk o le prime demo dei Dissection per rendersi conto che il riferimento era la musica alla Entombed e non quella alla Darkthrone. La potenza del death metal qui è ancora al suo apice, però l’atmosfera blasfema che si viene a creare farà felice tutti gli infoiati black metallers con la faccia pitturata il cui sogno più bagnato è andare a comprare una tanica di benzina con Varg Vikernes.
Un album che unisce e accontenta due mondi, che pur vicini sono lontani anche se può non sembrare.
