"Robert Miles" nome d'arte del compositore elettronico svizzero "Roberto Concina" .
Questo Album "23am" si discosta dal genere del primo "Dreamland". In "Dreamland" Miles aveva creato un genere nuovo nella cultura dance commerciale: la "Trance/Dream" un genere che ancora oggi viene ripreso da diversi Dj. Il genere in questione è basato su un pianoforte elettronico (quello di "Robert Miles" è il Bright Piano) che compone una melodia semplice e ciclica e il ritmo serrato da dance classica viene inserita in maniera graduale e progressiva.
Non appagato di questa innovazione "Robert Miles" con il suo secondo Album continua la sua personale sperimentazione. In questo "23am" cerca di creare una elettronica sinfonica abbandonando quasi del tutto i ritmi serrati del precedente lavoro. Il risultato è piacevole e l'ascolto anche dopo 13 anni (1997 era l'uscita) risulta essere moderno e "avanti".
Passiamo alle tracce:
01- "Introducing" Una breve introduzione molto "Dream" piena di suoni "Ambient" come temporali e voci eteree di donna e neonati.
02- "A new flower" E' un continuo della prima traccia (anche se ad essere precisi tutte le tracce sono legate tra di loro come un unica singola esperienza musicale).
In questa traccia ascoltiamo la nascita di "Un nuovo fiore" la vita, rappresentata dai versi di un bimbo appena nato. Una delle migliori di tutto l'album.
03- "Everyday life" Una lunghissima traccia di minuti 10:29. In questa viene sintetizzata tutta la nuova ricerca musicale di questo Album. Una voce eterea simile a quella utilizzata nella canzone "Fable" accompagnamento elettronico dolce e progressivo senza mai arrivare alle percussioni dure della dance. Davvero bella.
04- "Freedom" L'inconfondibile Piano di Miles ricompare in questa traccia accompagnata da un bel ritmo minimal.
05- "Textures" Una breve traccia elettronica ritmata che anticipa le sonorità del 3° Album "Organik". Inserimenti anche di fiati nella parte finale della canzone.
06-09 Queste 4 tracce sono leggermente inferiori alle altre. Comunque sono ascoltabilissime. Tenendo presente che questo Album è un di quelli che vanno ascoltati come musica d'Ambiente come sottofondo musicale alla "Mike Oldfield".
10- "Full Moon" Bellissima traccia evocativa e sognante per poi trasformarsi in ritmata con inserimenti tecno (il tutto sempre molto soft).
11- "Leaving behind..." L'ultima traccia è dolce e delicata. Termina con delle voci compresa quella di Miles. Una chiusura di stile.
In definitiva che dire? Consiglio vivamente questo Album a tutti quelli che cercano esperienze nuove e di stile anche nella musica Elettronica.
Invece non consiglio questo Album agli appassionati di sola musica Dance perché questo Album "23am" è molto lontano dalle sonorità del precedente "Dreamland".
