Da Jason Pierce ex chitarrista degli Spacemen 3 e mente degli Spiritualized per il terzo LP del suo gruppo un titolo del genere era il minimo che ci si potesse aspettare. Un lavoro ambizioso ed indovinato anche se non del tutto. Il disco è imperniato sul concetto di vuoto buddista, la verità di KU (letteralmente: vuoto, sunya in sanscrito, non-sostanzialità), quella latenza che è l'essenza dell'eternità che sta alla base della vità stessa, buona parte del lavoro di Pierce, mente illuminata, è tesa verso il concetto di ku o non-sostanzialità ovvero i "dieci regni dei dharma", per i praticanti del Buddhismo il "Regno dei dharma" è il mondo dei fenomeni, cioè l'intero universo.
Mai come adesso la musica degli Spiritualized tenta di conciliare astratto e concreto, fisico ed immateriale, desiderio e sua realizzazione. Tutti i brani hanno la struttura di preghiere mistiche, esprimendo un tentativo di ascesi amorosa che nella parte finale del disco viene seriamente minacciata dalla dura realtà quotidiana. Anche questa volta la musica (pur flirtando spesso e volentieri con il pop) tende all'effetto trance su un minimalismo molto ripetitivo, dall'incedere rituale e dalla crescita di intensità che in certi casi rimanda agli impatti wagneriani degli Spacemen 3 (Come Together, I think I'm in love). Le sonorità si fondono tra loro esplorando e mescolando accenni di soul, gospel , blues e psichedelica e ripescando i Beach Boys. Un'impresa ambiziosa come dicevo, rovinata verso la fine da 3 brani che, facendo in alcuni casi i verso ai gong e contemporaneamente alla musica da camera risultano fuori luogo e di cattivo gusto. La suite di Cop Shot Cop con il magico piano di doctor John rimette però tutto a posto. E comunque il capolavoro del Jason Pierce solista, anche se l'eccessivo perfezionismo si ritorce contro talvolta ad artisti come Pierce che danno il loro meglio nelle improvvisazioni lisergiche ovvero quando non stanno in casa col cervello.

È un’opera che offre conforto e consolazione in un mondo spesso caotico e confuso.
