Quanto può influire una perdita enorme nella nostra vita? Tantissimo. La vita subisce una metamorfosi che si ripercuote inevitabilmente nei gesti e atteggiamenti quotidiani, nel lavoro, nei pensieri, nelle esposizioni, nel silenzio, nella solitudine, niente sarà più lo stesso, niente avrà lo stesso sapore e lucentezza ma tutto dovrà continuare come prima. Anche per Sting, lo spettro della morte si è presentato nella sua vita, come nella vita di ognuno di noi, perde all'improvviso la madre, per questo motivo e per altre sofferenze che affliggono il mondo decide di lottare per se stesso e per le famiglie dei Desaparecidos che hanno subito il dramma delle guerre civili del regime di Pinochet.
". . . . Nothing Like The Sun" è un Album composto da dodici tracce tristi e velate, vuole esserci un tentativo di calore ma il dolore filtra come i raggi di un sole freddo (e il titolo lo sottolinea). Abbiamo la partecipazione molto composta e tranquilla delle chitarre di Clapton e Knopfler, del sax di Branford Marsalis, delle percussioni di Manu Katche e Mino Cinelu e delle tastiere di Kenny Kirkland e per gli arrangiamenti Jazz Gil Evans e la sua orchestra e Ruben Blades
Incrocio tra la storia di sentimenti umani e la politica tra umanità e interessi, tra ciò che conta di più e ciò che si presume valga di meno di una vita umana, infatti ci si chiede, ma sarà mai possibile trovare un accordo di pace dove la fusione di amore può cancellare la guerra e la violenza come mezzo di estremità assoluta? No vero? I continui errori dovrebbero insegnare che la morte arriva già da sola senza andare a cercarla, ma evidentemente è chiedere troppo. Questo Album è un bocciolo di fragilità umana, un'emozione che nasce dal dolore per l'irreparabile morte, la musica, i testi eseguono il rituale di un dolore che nega la realtà della disperazione. In questo caso la musica di Sting assume una dimensione propria e personale, niente eccessi di intelletto, e tutto converge in un punto solo, la pace, niente è così raro come il sole di un cuore vivo, gli occhi guardano, l'anima parla e il cuore aspetta.
"The Lazarus Heart" molto ritmata incantevole - "Be Still My Beating heart" piena di pathos grazie a un sax mozzafiato - "Englishman in New York" il sax e contrabbasso e strumenti orchestrali abbagliano dando valore di eleganza e stile all'intera traccia - "History Will Teach Us Nothing" inizio strumentale alla ricerca di un continuo movimento d'aspettativa, raffinata la nuova ricerca tra velature jazz e oltre - "They Dance Alone (Cueca Solo)" straordinario brano di una bellezza senza pari ballo tradizionale Cileno, voce raffinata, flauti e percussioni accompagnano Clapton e Knopfler - "Fragile" pieno di ricordi, di dolore, delicatissimo, semplice e limpido - "We'll Be Together" si va sul pop-soul esplosivo - "Straight To My Heart" vicoli nascosti che portano a balere disperse - "Rock Steady" proibizionismo di eccesso sentimentale - "Sister Moon" la voce calda di Sting accompagnata dall'inseparabile sax colpisce il cuore fragile - "Little Wing" tribute a Hendrix, suonata con Gil Evans & Orchestra, il più bel brano, dove la voce e melodie sono libere al massimo - "The Secret Marriage" il piano, la voce, il contrabbasso e niente più personificano un'opera artistica.
Anche Sting dovrà continuare a vivere e convivere con il dolore e un senso di pace lo vorrà cercare nella oramai tante volte nominata Toscana che ne farà sua dimora a Ponte Agli Stolli, dove il cuore trova silenzio, dove il cuore trova la sua massima espressione artistica.
