Yo! Per la mia prima recensione, scelgo Snowball degli inglesi Field Mice.
Un mini Lp di otto tracce, pubblicato nel 1989, tra un singolo e l'altro, dalla mitica Sarah Records. Etichetta ormai defunta, che diede spazio nel proprio catalogo a ottimi gruppi: Orchids, Sea Urchins, Blueboy, etc...
Protagonista nei brani di questa raccolta è la malinconia. La si può trovare in modi diversi, come nelle più frizzanti "You're Kidding Aren't You" e"This Love Is Not Wrong" o nel proto dark, super chorus di "Letting Go". Le sfumature riconducono al Post Punk, alla New Wave e a quel genere, che verra etichettato come Shoegaze. Elementi ben miscelati in "White", pezzo caratterizzato da stratificazioni, distorti e da una certa incazzatura quasi vulnerabile. I brani rimanenti, sono più soffici e sembrano avere come qualità, quella di poter cullare l'ascoltatore.
Mezz'ora di quello che considero il vero indie-pop scuola anni 80.
