E' colpa mia. Come ha fatto a sfuggirmi questo album? Adesso devo andare a ritroso come i gamberi. Io che ho tutti gli album dei Jam lì, uno in fila all'altro. Tutti, raccolte di inediti, extras, tutto. Arriva il primo gruppo che riprende da dove avevano interrotto loro. No, scusate, non è esatto. The Rifles, riprendono da dove avevano interrotto The Jam con "All Mod Cons" e i Madness con il loro secondo album. Agitano il tutto, e nell'anno 2006 ci servono questo mix che finora non avevamo mai ascoltato. Non c'è Brit-Pop che tiene qui. Cancellato, sorpassato. Una formula Uno che sorpassa un Risciò. Neanche se ne sono resi conto gli altri. Adesso però con l'uscita del secondo album nel 2009 due conti se li dovranno rifare tutti. Cos'era quella macchia che ho visto passare per un attimo? The Rifles. Una bella sorpresa vera e propria.
Ecco cos'è. 1) She's got standards - Inizio con il botto. Sparati nel vero senso della parola. Sono pallottole queste canzoni. Mai una Band ha trovato un nome più giusto. Tutta la novità dei Rifles è già presente in questo primo pezzo. I Jam di "In the City" si fondono con i Madness. 2) Local Boy - Dopo avere già ascoltato il secondo album. Cali non ne aspetto più. Anzi mi aspetto ancora più velocità come si deve ad un esordio del genere. E loro non mi deludono. Sono perle beat queste canzoni. 3) One night stand - Tre su tre. Qui più Madness che Jam. Bellissima. 4) Hometown Blues - Eh niente, la formula è quella degli altri pezzi. Questi sciorinano 45 giri come fossero noccioline. 5) Peace and quit - Titolo adatto per una bella ballata vero? Invece, mi parte batteria, chitarra lead che tiene il ritmo e vai. Com'è bello sto pezzo! Aiuto! E' il brano del loro esordio in 7". Qui ci sono i Jam, i Santi che ballano, tutti. 6) Spend a Lifetime - Eccola qui la ballata in stile Sound affects dei Jam. Anche nel secondo album ne piazzeranno un'altra nello stesso punto. 7) Robin Hood - chitarra ritmica e poi esplode il pezzo. Senza pietà. 8) She's the only one - è un mezzo rockabilly - niente di nuovo qui. Il pezzo però non fa crollare la media. Posso accettarlo. Mi piacevano gli Stray cats quindi per me va bene. 9) Repetead offender - Rieccoli, i Jam a braccetto dei Madness. Questo si che suona nuovo: Però ho come l'impressione che si stiano preparando per il botto finale. Per darmi il ko. In fondo all'album vedo un pezzo lungo. Anche questa traccia comunque molto buona. 10) When i'm alone - sentiamo cosa fa quando è solo. Ve lo dico io cosa fa. Salta e balla. Bellissima anche questa. 11) Narrow minded Social Club - sveliamo il mistero di questo pezzo lungo. Inizia acustico, ancora una ballata alla Jam di Sound Affects. Dopo un paio di muniti di sto pezzo arriva il silenzio di tomba. Ma non è finito! Mancano ancora tre minuti. Vuoi vedere che è fallato? Poi inizia un pezzo che è tutta un 'altra cosa. Un brano beat ritmato e bello. Panico. Il pezzo non è nella track list. Indagini ad alta quota e scopro che è un pezzo nascosto di proposito. Titolo: Fat Cat. Vatti a fidare.
A questo album darò 4. Purtroppo ho già ascoltato il secondo. Alex
