I Teen Idles. La prima vera band del DCcore (OK, se vogliamo essere pignoli i primi semi vennero gettati da Black Market Baby e Bad Brains, che ispirarono i Nostri ad imbracciare gli strumenti, ma certo é che l'universo hardcore del District Columbia, senza di loro, non sarebbe stato lo stesso), una grande formazione composta da Nathan Streijek (voce), Geordie Grindle (chitarra), Ian MacKaye (basso) e Jeff Nelson (batteria), quattro studenti che appena diciasettenni iniziano a suonare ad una velocitá pazzesca setacciando in lungo e in largo i locali di Washington e dintorni, e compiendo pure uno sfortunato tour in California.
La loro é un'epopea brevissima, durata dall'estate 1979 all'inverno 1980. Al termine della quale il giovane MacKaye decide che la sua band non puó sparire nel nulla. Decide quindi di racimolare i vecchi nastri registrati e, con un pó di fatica, pubblica l'EP "Minor Disturbance", otto tracce velocissime e sparate che sono anche il primo pezzo di vinile edito dalla Dischord records.
La qualitá sonora é pessima, ma il (capo)lavoro diventa leggendario. Ecco dunque che per il numero 100 dell'etichetta, viene pubblicato questo "Anniversary", un EP di sei brani per un totale di nove minuti in cui la qualitá audio risulta davvero migliorata. Inoltre sono presenti un paio di inediti come l´iniziale proto-surf strumentale "Adventure" e "Trans Am". La voce di Streijek e' potente e sfacciata, la base sonora pompa rumore non più punk ma ancora non marcatamente hardcore, é il caos, come dimostra il medley "Fiorucci Nightmare/Getting In My Way". Dei classici dalla potenza e dall'attualitá incredibile anccor oggi, che "costruiranno" la scena punk di Washington, non solo ispirando i giovani del luogo a formare bands, ma anche divenendo il trampolino di lancio per i Minor Threat (con Ian e Jeff) e gli Youth Brigade (con Nathan), altre leggende locali.
