FERMO LA' ! Questa NON E' UNA COMPILéSCION DI NATALE !
è UN MAGNIFICO CAPOLAVORO che Vince Guaraldi, pianista jazz, in trio con Monty Budwig, bass, e Colin Bailey, drums, regalò al mondo nel 1965, nonchè la colonna sonora del primo episodio natalizio dei fantastici e insuperabili Peanuts, nati dalla penna del geniale Charles Schulz, intitolato appunto "Il Natale di Charlie Brown". Episodio che dubito qualcuno ancora non abbia visto, ma in tal caso il mio consiglio è quello di rimediare in fretta; sempre che vi piaccia il depresso Charlie, l'insicuro Linus, l'esuberante Lucy, e naturalmente lui, Snoopy, ovvero il bracchetto più "faico" del mondo!
Vince Guaraldi, aka Dr Funk, come venne soprannominato all'epoca, si occupò del sottofondo musicale di questi magnifici cartoni fino alla sua prematura scomparsa a meta degli anni 70, a soli 47 anni, e contribuì in maniera determinante al successo di questo ultimi presso un pubblico davvero trasversale, e in ultima analisi anche al mio "giovine" interessamento al mondo del jazz (apperò!).
Con una straordinaria sensibilità di cui evidentemente era dotato, riuscì con una soltanto apparente semplicità, a tradurre perfettamente in musica lo spirito umoristico, ironico, ma anche profondamente intellettuale e classicamente moderno di tali storie. Infatti, le vicende dei Peanuts hanno più chiavi di lettura, qui ad esempio è lo spirito natalizio ad essere messo in discussione, e i brani, a dimostrazione del loro alto valore, oltre a catturare l'atmosfera in maniera raffinata e adattarsi in maniera sublime alle situazioni, sono diventati dei veri e propri standard jazz come l'incantevole "Christmas Time Is Here" proposta in versione strumentale (da brivido) e subito dopo vocale con un coro di bambini - che farebbe emozionare anche una pattuglia di finanzieri con unità cinofila al seguito!
Curiosità: questa stessa versione fa capolino anche nella recente (e molto bella) soundtrack del film "I Tenenbaum" del 2001 curata da Mark Mothersbaugh dei mitici Devo. Tra brani originali e classici natalizi riarrangiati, come "O Tannenbaum", "Greensleeves" e "What Child Is This?" spiccano anche l'originale "Linus & Lucy" e la bossa di "Christmas Is Coming", ma, se odiate il Natale non fa niente, i 40 minuti di questo dischetto li amerete lo stesso. Infatti, questo album, che già dalla copertina invoglia un sacco, starebbe al vostro Natale come una fetta di panettone, peccato farne a meno!
