Non c' è tantissimo da dire di questo gruppo, è stata una brevissima ma straordinaria relazione molto intensa che ha generato due creature chiamate "Upstairs At Eric's" e "You And Me Both" .
Ma la loro favola è tutta racchiusa in "Upstairs At Eric's" .
Il folletto Vince Clarke ingegnoso innovatore "elettronico" in continuo movimento (non amava tanto stare nel solito gruppo vedi Depeche Mode, Yazoo, The Assembly e poi Erasure) e Alison Moyet fata dal sorriso e dalla voce incantatrice, di capacità vocali intoccabili e passionali, si sono divertiti a fantasticare un mondo tutto loro, e il risultato è stata una favola piena di anima profonda e sensibile.
Un'esplosione di energici sintetizzatori e una miscelazione di melodie techno-pop and blues.
"Don' t Go" mitico brano galvanizzante, sbarazzino, sintetizzatori a pieno ritmo e gli acuti di Alison sono da . . . . . " attenzione ai bicchieri di cristallo!"
"Too Pieces" prevalentemente strumentale, di profonda sensibilità , una semplice e tenera carezza accompagnata da un sottofondo di voci che svaniscono nei ritmi elettronici
"Bad Connection" ci sono degli squilli telefonici e una lunga e allegra conversazione di pettegolezzi
"I Before E Except After C" voci e bisbigli a ripetizione, risate ironiche e paranoiche, che giocano a mescolarsi a sperimentazione con un freddo sintetizzatore impazzito
"Midnight" straordinaria introduzione e consecutivamente Alison si dimostra abile nella resistenza canora, fondamentali sono le tastiere
"In My Room" un brano più parlato che cantato è una miscelazione di punk-elettrico sperimentale
"Only You" il più bel brano di tutto l'Album, un sogno straordinario, una bellezza rara e accecante, melodie, sintetizzatori e una voce incolmabile, che rimarrà nella storia della musica
"Goodbye 70's" traccia punk-glam, tastiere tuonanti e una carica travolgente, abbiamo una Alison accattivante, eccitante e molto felina
"Tuesday" traccia non tanto impegnativa, gentile e la voce aleggia
"Winter Kills" e naturalmente è arrivato il momento di un brano sofferente, molto triste e lontano chilometri luce da tutte le altre tracce, è stato scritto da Alison dove ha voluto esternare quel lato della vita che vive in tutti noi, volente o no
"Bring Your Love Down (Didn' t I)" e dopo la precedente dolorosa parentesi, ci si ributta in un finale a martello pneumatico, con alti e bassi di base a ritornelli monotoni e ripetitivi.
Per Vince e Alison è stata una fiaba che si è trasformata in realtà e che li ha divertiti parecchio e naturalmente anche noi.
