Against Perfection... e invece si sfiora la perfezione. Disco del 1993, un quartetto di Coventry guidati dal cantante Piotr Fijalkowski e dal chitarrista Robert Dillamda da alla luce un disco dalle mille sfaccettature che ruota attorno alla malinconia dei Cure e degli Echo and the Bunnymen e affonda nello shoegaze dei My Bloody Valentine. Si inseriscono o meglio sono inseriti dalla critica inglese in quel calderone noto ai più come Brit Pop e in qualche modo le linee melodiche degli Adorable ricordano gruppi come Verve e Suede (Oasis no dai...) ma è più forte il richiamo a quelle atmosfere care ai My Bloody Valentine che ne formano l'animo e li fanno discostare da quel calderone di suoni...
Da subito dalla prima traccia "Sunshine Smile" gli Adorable non suonano insipidi, con le chitarre che erigono muri di suono sconvolgenti, travolgenti, una melodia ben presente, il basso che ricorda da vicino i Cure, un sorriso alla malinconia in bilico tra shoegaze e dream pop.
Un sorriso e un abbraccio malinconico caldo e teso che ritroviamo in tutte le 12 tracce di un disco ingiustamente o giustamente giudicherete voi (saggio popolo debaseriano...) caduto nell'anonimato e sepolto sotto quella valanga di dischi che di lì a poco arriverà sul mercato inglese.
Dopo questo lavoro gli Adorable pubblicheranno un secondo disco nel 1994, "Fake" più intimo e introspettivo per poi sciogliersi definitivamente. Resta comunque un disco prezioso e malinconico di un gruppo che si era inserito in contesto musicale in evoluzione che li ha dimenticati ben presto.
Del resto....
