Come scrisse un qualche critico particolarmente ispirato, ascoltare Moon Safari degli Air è come guardare il mondo attraverso una coppa di champagne e la freschezza electro-pop di questo lavoro è qui a confermare questa azzeccata metafora.
Il duo francese con questo lavoro dà nuova linfa ad un certo tipo di musica elettronica che stava scomparendo, inghiottita dal sound "duro" d’oltremanica di gruppi come Chemical Brothers, Prodigy o Aphex Twin. Nei loro confronti il suono degli Air è diametralmente opposto. Frizzante, limpido, una ventata di aria fresca che accende i riflettori su di una scena elettronica francese di tutto rispetto, generando altresì schiere di discepoli/cloni.
L’album, che si mantiene sempre su livelli alti, contiene più di una perla, a partire dalla splendida e malinconica All I Need, uno dei pezzi meglio riusciti della loro intera discografia, per passare alle strumentali Ce Matin-La e Le Voyage De Penelope, vere e proprie orchestrazioni easy-listening. Non mancano rivisitazioni post moderne dei temi pop del passato, più o meno recenti (Sexy Boy su tutte). Ma non è solo il pop ad essere rinnovato dagli Air che attingono a piene mani anche dal jazz, funk, soul e non solo.
In conclusione con questo loro “Moon Safari” gli Air aprono le porte verso un nuovo modo di fare musica elettronica, diventando maestri ed ispiratori di una generazione di musicisti (Cassius, Modjo, Etienne de Crecy, Saint Etienne per citarne alcuni).

Air è un duo francese formato da Nicolas Godin e Jean-Benoît Dunckel, spesso associato a sonorità elettroniche raffinate, lounge ed evocazioni psichedeliche/seventies.
