C'è qualcosa di magico in Alicia Keys, qualcosa che poche altre hanno oggi: il talento. Eppure in questo "The Element Of Freedom" non viene usato molto. Sia chiaro è un buon prodotto, ma da una artista che è riuscita a sfornare album del calibro di "Songs of A Minor" e "The Diary of Alicia Keys" ci si aspetterebbe di più. "As i Am", il precedente lavoro, aveva già dato segni di cedimento dal punto di vista della personalità, segni che sono diventati ancora più evidenti in questo "Element of Freedom".
Molti pezzi sono infarciti di una elletronica che poco si addice alla Keys. Elettronica che va a sacrificare il talento soul di questa artista. Infatti i pezzi più incisivi sono quelli più "spogli". Il migliore è, a mio parere, "Empire State Of Mind 2", dove Alicia fa uscire il suo talento, la sua voce è accompagnata dal solo piano (tranne nel finale) ed è parecchio emozionante. Passano invece in secondo piano canzoni come "Try To Sleeping With A Broken Heart", dove a creare la canzone sembra sia stato un sintetizzatore al posto della Keys: poco incisiva e soprattutto poco personale. Per non parlare del duetto con Beyoncè: piacevole sì, ma sarebbe stato meglio in un album dell'ex Destiny's Child, perchè sembra molto più un pezzo di Beyoncè che di Alicia.... Insomma un disco che a tratti coinvolge ed emoziona e a tratti fa restare a bocca asciutta e delude. Sono un po' perplesso, spero che Alicia torni ai livelli dei primi due album. E se i due singoli estratti stanno andando male vuol dire che non sono il solo a sperarlo...
