Che dire ?
Gli Arch Enemy hanno fatto la storia col loro originale e personale Death-metal melodico che va a prendere spunti anche sul Death e Thrash.
Capitanati dalla (a mio parere gnocca) Angela Gossow, ma i veri leader sono stati i due fratelli Chris e Michal Amott, quest'ultimo stato in numerose bend come i Carcass di "Heartwork" e gli Spiritual Beggars. Questo loro ultimo album si pare con l'aspettativa di essere il seguito del loro precedente album "Wages of Sin", quindi questo va a catturare l'attenzione di tutti. "Doomsday Machine" in effetti è ben congegnato, ma ha molte facce e quindi bisogna analizzarlo con cura: l'apertura dell'album è riservata a "Enter the machine", ballata strumentale epica che fa rabbrividire l'ascoltatore dopo ogni ascolto. Ma il primo vero assalto sonoro è "Taking back my soul", che si attacca al riff finale della canzone precedente in maniera perfetta, da lasciare l'ascoltatore scioccato dalla furia del riff iniziale. Il growl di Angela e gli assoli dei fratelli Amott non sono mai stati così efficaci e ben posizionati come in questa canzone. Quindi un inizio forte e ben mirato che fa prospettare a un grande cd. "Nemesis", la traccia seguente e primo singolo dell'album per il gruppo, è anch'esso una vera bomba alternando parti melodiche e incazzate sempre mantenendo la velocità.
"My apocalipse" invece scende giù di toni per quanto riguarda la velocità e l'incazzatura, mantenendo l'alternarsi abituale di strofe con riff più cazzuti e ritornelli melodici. Nella canzone a parer mio è meno azzeccata la parte acustica per poi riattaccarsi alla strofa. Altro punto saliente del cd è "I am legend/Out for blood", violentissimo con un riff centrale death/brutal con blast da paura, vero pezzo da pogo. Lo strumentale "Hybrids of Steel" invece è una bellissima miscela di gusti personali dei chitarristi songwriter, che inseriscono parti jazz e acustiche alternando sempre in chiave metal.
"Doomsday Machine" è un buon disco caratterizzato da una buonissima produzione e di canzoni memorabili, ma non è un capolavoro come "Burning bridges" o "Stigmata".
Speriamo che il prossimo lavoro sia molto più pensato!
