La Germania non scherza affatto nell'occupare lo scenario Power Metal, e Avantasia, Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Rage sono solo alcune band tedesche che del genere hanno creato la storia.
Nel loro piccolo anche i Brain Storm, se pur meno conosciuti, hanno contribuito alla grande nel perfezionare questa corrente melodica che come una grande moda si è sviluppata in particolare nello stato tedesco. Era il 1990 quando si formò per la prima volta la band, ma fù solo sette anni dopo che entrò in commerciò il loro debut album "Hungry", a primo impatto Acerbo e poco espressivo. Passano anni e album vari, fino a quando nel 2005 non concepiscono "Liquid Monster" e allora, incominciano a meritarsi un pò di successo e giuste attenzioni.
In Effetti questo "Liquid Monster" è un album carico e potente, non abbiamo il tipico e scontato power melodico medioevale fantasy ed epico, ma un potente concentrato di Heavy Metal in cui i riff di chitarra e le accattivanti basi melodiche formano canzoni che facilmente vengono assorbite dall'ascoltatore. È sostanzialmente Heavy Potente.
Ho visto dal vivo Andy B. Franck a Milano al RollingStones mentre cantava nei 'Symphorce' e faceva da spalla ai 'Sonata Arctica'. i Brain Storm sono proprio come i 'Symphorce', fanno un Power che non è uguale a tutti i suoi simili, ma è duro e oscuro in quanto prende la ritmica classica dell'heavy metal e la arrangia con assoloni degni di nota, riff di chitarra notevoli e un chorus molto ben fatto. Le tastiere sono presenti ma altro non fanno che disegnare un leggero sfondo. C'è infatti chi classifica questo album tra il Power e il Thrash. È potente la voce di Franck, non è squillante e da castrato, ma è alta, calda e dimenante.
Il Perno della band è comunque Torsten Ihlenfeld per il suo grande stile di sparare riff taglienti e schetti. È bellissima la canzone "Inside the monster", melodica ma nello stesso tempo cattiva e aggressiva, con assoli di chitarra complicati e una voce piuttosto incazzata, quella che grida "Inside the Monster". Ma degna di nota è sicuramente anche "Lifeline", che rappresenta la canzone più veloce e thrash del combo Tedesco. Anche "Despair To Drown" è da ascoltare, canzone che ricorda band come 'Testament' e 'Megadeth'.
Insomma se volete per un attimo abbandonare il Power da chirichetti per ascoltare un Power duro e cattivo, provate "Liquid Monster" dei Brainstorm.
