Il momento tanto atteso da una schiera interminabile di fans e addetti ai lavori è arrivato: i Cavalera Conspiracy, il clamoroso ritorno sulle scene in coppia dei fratelli Cavalera, non è più solo una fumosa voce di corridoio ma una realtà concreta. Dopo ben 12 anni, esattamente dalla pubblicazione di 'Roots' nel 1996, Max e Igor sono tornati a comporre e suonare insieme, chiudendo (forse) quella ferita che aveva portato allo scioglimento dei Sepultura, una delle più acclamate band metal degli anni '90. Per chi fosse vissuto in una campana di vetro riassumerò brevemente le vicende degli ultimi anni: Max ha fondato i Soulfly, band nu-metal con influenze etniche, mentre Igor e i restanti Sepultura hanno proseguito la loro avventura con un altro cantante, Derrick Green, tra molte critiche e poche lodi.
Questo primo lavoro della nuova creatura, 'Inflikted' spiazzerà sia chi si aspettava un lavoro a-là Soulfly sia chi sperava in una svolta di genere radicale. Il termine che, a mio parere, più si addice a questo lavoro è "ruffiano": i due hanno semplicemente fatto finta che gli ultimi 17 anni non siano mai avvenuti, suonando un thrash/death in pieno stile Sepultura, vicinissimo come stile ad 'Arise' con meno influenze hardcore di 'Chaos A.D.', tutto ciò riletto con la forma mentis del nuovo millennio; niente influenze etniche né nu metal, ma solo 11 brani violenti, diretti e senza fronzoli, esattamente ciò che proponevano i Sepultura quasi 20 anni fa. Che sia stata una mossa commerciale o meno non sta a me giudicarlo; posso solo dire che, a mio parere, l'operazione compiuta dai due fratelli brasiliani non è del tutto riuscita. Al fianco di Max e Igor troviamo il chitarista Marc Rizzo dei Soufly e da Joe Duplantier (voce e chitarra nei Gojira) al basso.
Nonostante i brani notevoli ci siano, la title-track su tutte, una mazzata sui denti di spropositata violenza, ma anche 'Ultra-Violent', la thrashissima 'Hex' o la più lenta 'The Doom of All Fires', e le sorprese nemmeno, come il finale acustico di 'Bloodbrawl', alcuni brani sono molto meno ispirati e privi di anima, come 'Nevertrust' o 'Black Ark', gli episodi meno riusciti in assoluto, mentre altri, privi di quel quid che caratterizza le tracce più rappresentative, risultano solo un mero esercizio di stile, ed è in questi frangenti che l'effetto retrò risulta controproducente. Questi sono comunque difetti facilmente risolvibili, nulla può mettere in dubbio che 'Inflikted' sia un lavoro ampiamente superiore alla media. Un lavoro transitorio insomma, una prima pietra messa su quello che si spera sarà un lungo sentiero per i Cavalera Conspiracy.

L’album è un gioiellino del thrash-death, incazzato come una iena e veloce come chi scappa da un cane che vuol mordergli il culo.
Se avete amato i Sepultura, il thrash in generale e il metallo estremo preparatevi ad uno scossone tellurico che non dimenticherete facilmente.

E' con questa attitudine prepotente e grintosa che i due fratelli più famosi del metal pesante hanno voluto reimporsi nel mondo del metal.
Come avrete capito 'Inflikted' è l’ennesimo capolavoro di Max Cavalera e la possibilità di sentirlo di nuovo suonare con il leggendario fratello Igor.
