Il punto interrogativo che mi ha sempre fatto pensare sentendo questa band è come mai gruppi come Scorpions, Savatage, Judas Priest ecc.. ecc.. sono diventati mostri sacri del rock mentre i Demon sono rimasti sempre una piccola realtà di nicchia. Questo proprio non lo so.
Sentendo "Night of the Demon" un brivido di freddo scorre attraverso la spina dorsale, fino a fare venire la pelle d'oca, un capolavoro dell'heavy metal, su questo non ci sono dubbi. Album uscito nel 1981 quando la NWOBHM aveva di già fatto scorrere fiumi di ottimi album, questo lavoro fece un grande scalpore per via della copertina al tempo troppo blasfema.
La loro musica è perfettamente suonata, nessun errore, tutto al posto giusto, la voce di Dave Hill non ha nulla a che invidiare a nessun frontman dell'epoca, calda ed alta, proveniente da una scuola Hard Rock viene accompagnata nella maniera più impeccabile dalle chitarre di Les Hunt, musicista di una notevole preparazione tecnica e compositiva, dalle ispirazioni geniali con delle radici basate nel rock anni 70. Non si può non citare canzoni come "Liar" capolavoro indiscusso del disco, di una freschezza e scorrevolezza da hit parade o la non da meno "Ride the Wind" canzone che ricorda in parte lavori dei Kiss, senza tralasciare "Fool the play the Hard Way".
Dopo tutta questa descrizione mi rifaccio questa domanda: perchè i Demon sono ancora così poco considerati ? Perchè invece di tutte quelle T-Shirt dei Maiden non troviamo anche quelle di questa band ?
Non ho parole, almeno questo disco se non lo avete dovete procurarvelo, ve lo assicuro, è musica che vi lascerà senza fiato.
