Oggi vorrei portare alla vostra attenzione un disco secondo me passato un po' in sordina, cioè "Thrash Anthems" dei teutonici Destruction, quest'ultimi famosi per essere il terzo membro della famosa triade Thrash Metal tedesca composta anche da Kreator e Sodom, e per aver sfornato album indimenticabili come "Infernal Overkill" ed "Eternal Devastation".
Il disco in questione è una commemorazione dell'ormai più che ventennale carriera del gruppo, infatti ripropone i grandi classici della band (il periodo di carriera coperto da questa sorta di "Best Of" va da "Sentence Of Death", 1984, fino a "Cracked Brain", 1989/90) risuonati con le moderne tecnologie oggi disponibili in sala di registrazione. In base a quanto detto molti potranno pensare che si tratta della solita manovra commerciale che, sfruttando il buon periodo che i tre tedesconi stanno attraversando, si propone l'obiettivo di spillare quattrini ai poveri fans indifesi, invece credo che in questo caso ci troviamo davanti finalmente a qualcosa di diverso, ed ora vi spiegherò il perchè: per prima cosa è da segnale che il re-styling delle canzoni è riuscito veramente bene ed è stato poco invasivo, per capirci niente stravolgimenti tipo il remake di "Stormblast" dei Dimmu Borgir (che a me comunque piace, ma questo è un altro discorso), infatti ogni brano ha conservato la malvagità e la sfrontatezza tipici degli anni '80, i quali sono stati, però, valorizzati da un suono più pulito e da uno Schmier vocalmente più maturo e devastante (la sua voce al vetriolo è veramente, insieme ai riff di Mike, il vero marchio di fabbrica dei Destruction).
Il secondo punto forte di quest'opera è l'aggiunta di due nuove tracce: "Profanity" e "Deposition (Your Heads Will Roll)", che risultano così amalgamate con i vecchi capolavori del trio tedesco da non riuscire a credere che invece sono state scritte nel 2007.
In conclusione un disco che ogni amante del buon Thrash Metal dovrebbe almeno provare ad ascoltare, infatti in un mercato così saturo di trovate discografiche spesso inutili e costose è confortante vedere che ancora c'è un gruppo che ha voglia di offrire ai propri ammiratori un lavoro ben fatto, onesto e assolutamente in linea con il proprio stile ed immagine.
P.S. Se riuscite a trovare la versione limitata, in digipack, come traccia bonus c'è la mitica "Eternal Ban"!
