Un giusto mix di Alice in Chains e Black Sabbath è ciò che viene proposto dalle Drain S.T.H., band svedese tutta al femminile.
Originarie di Stoccolma, le ragazze iniziarono la loro breve carriera con l'album "Horror Wrestling" seguito da questo "Freaks of Nature", un album sicuramente più accessibile del precedente, dove le armonizzazioni vocali di Maria Sjöholm e Martina Axén (rispettivamente voce e batteria della band) la fanno da padrone nelle undici track presenti nell'album.
Un album che presenta molti brani interessanti, a partire da "Alive" (debitore degli Alice in Chains più ispirati), "I Wish...", "Black" (scritta insieme a Tommy Iommi ) e "Right Through You". Un metal fortemente influenzato dal grunge, con qualche innesto rap (in "Simon Says") rende l'album scorrevole e facilmente digeribile ai non abituali fruitori di musica "pesante". Questo "Freaks of Nature" purtroppo è il secondo ed ultimo capitolo discografico della band, che non essendo riuscita a fare il grande passo è stata silurata senza mezze misure dalla sua casa discografica.
Scoperte quasi per caso, le Drain S.T.H. si sono imposte con arroganza nei miei ascolti quotidiani grazie all'immediatezza delle loro composizioni e alla bellezza avvolgente della voce della già citata Maria Sjöholm. Potremmo definirle una versione "easy" delle L7, ma tanti sono i tratti caratteristici della band che rendono le Drain S.T.H. un gruppo interessante, tutto da scoprire.
