Famiglia d'arte quella di 'Occhio d'aquila' Cherry.
Il padre era infatti l'immenso jazzista Don Cherry. La sorella niente di meno che Neneh Cherry, conoscete ? Quella che duettava con Youssou N'Dour nella memorabile "7 Seconds".
È l'album d'esordio dell'artista. Ne esistono due versioni, una uscita nel 1997 con una canzone in meno: "Falling in Love Again". E una del 1998 con la suddetta canzone aggiunta. Differiscono anche le copertine (quella qui riportata è quella del '98). (-Io non sapendone niente all'epoca beccai proprio la versione 'sfigata' con una canzone in meno- Ma vabbè poco male, ci pensarono le radio a farmela sentire ogni giorno. Infatti il secondo singolo "Falling in Love Again" diventò ben presto un 'tormentone' di quel periodo).
L'album è davvero di tutto rispetto, un Rock-Blues con le chitarre che la fanno da padrone, in un sound davvero piacevole. Il primo singolo fu l'indimenticabile "Save Tonight": se domani ci lasceremo, dobbiamo almeno darci un buon addio stasera, diceva il saggio e fascinoso Eagle-eye. Oltre ai due singoli sono da citare le splendide: "Indecision", "Comatose (In the Arms of Slumber)", "When Mermaids Cry", "Shooting Up In Vain" con una sonorità vocale e della chitarra che tanto ricorda il sound di Ben Harper. Ma è nel finale che troviamo la parte migliore dell'album: il ritornello stupendamente malinconico di "Permanent Tears" e l'ultima traccia che da il titolo all'album "Desireless" di Don Cherry... piano, tromba e voce si intrecciano in un incalzante, avvolgente e struggente sound jazz.
Lavoro dedicato alla memoria del padre 1936 - 1995.
Se nel paradiso dei jazzisti, circolano cd, lettori e casse musicali, allora il grande Don Cherry può solo bearsi di quanto il figlio gli ha dedicato. Tornerà negli anni successivi con un'altra manciata di album, ma il meglio di eagle-eye è da ricercare fra queste tracce.
