Oltre ad essere un capolavoro d’origine, con la ristampa dell’album uscito nel 1984 sono state aggiunte otto tracce di cui sei “allo stato brado”, naturali e spontanee con arrangiamenti aggiuntivi improvvisati e due dal vivo, portando l’album ad acquisire un ulteriore valore aggiuntivo. Alla struttura completamente orchestrale è assegnato un compito di effetto spettacolare e essenziale come gli arrangiamenti di archi, violini, violoncelli, bassi, oboe, chitarre acustiche e clavicembalo, che riescono a trasmettere emozioni esistenziali nonché umane, ogni brano è di alta qualità interpretativa, una sorta di rock psichedelico ambientale.
E’ un album molto maturo rispetto ai precedenti e la voce onnipresente di Ian McCulloch molto intesa e trittica, completa con grande magia la tela di questo quadro maestoso. “Silver” fantastica epopea pop di violini, violoncelli di grande suggestione; “Nocturnal Me” ballata triste e cupa ma ritmata e cadenzata da inseguimenti di mandolini e clavicembalo; “Crystal Days” gioiosa ventilazione di chitarre acustiche, piano e contrabbassi; “The Yo-Yo Man” emblematica nenia ripetitiva e controversa di chitarre, campanelli e banjo; "Thorn Of Crowns” è quasi una sorta di eccitazione schizofrenica, di gemiti e urla di piacere di Ian che si destreggiano a gara con gli strumenti come un piacevole gioco tra voce-strumento, tra alti e bassi che riaccendono il brano quando si pensa concluso. Ma ecco. . da spararsi a tutto volume la sublime “The Killing Moon” una delle più belle canzoni degli anni ’ 80, interminabile bacio romantico al sapor di nocciola pieno di ormoni galvanizzati pronti ad esplodere “Seven Seas” altro brano di un pop carismatico, rintocchi di maestose campane e dove basso e chitarre acustiche fanno da scena principale “ My Kingdom” ritornello malinconico alla ricerca di sfoghi in spazi aperti e verdeggianti “Ocean Rain” chiude l’Album d’ esordio, con un delicatissimo ballo lento, una carezza sul viso, uno sguardo profondo, una scossa penetrante fino a raggiungere le parti vitali dell’essere umano, e a mio parere, secondo brano scheletricamente fondamentale.
Le tracce aggiuntive sono: bonus “Angels and Devils” , a seguire la meravigliosa “All You Need Is Love” dei mitici Beatles che viene fatta concludere sulle note di "Sex Machine” di James Brown, “The Killing Moon” , “ Stars Are Stars” “ Villiers Terrace” e “ Silver” , tutti brani meravigliosamente storpiati dagli originali con inserimento di clarinetti, tamburelli, bassi, percussioni e chitarre acustiche quasi a creare da una parte un’ atmosfera arabesca e dall’ altra barocca, quindi da un estremo all’ altro con una tale fantasia e facilità e dal risultato eccellente, e a conclusione due pezzi dal vivo “My Kingdom” e "Ocean Rain” . Il continuo ascolto è di una tale tranquillità che va a rispecchio della copertina del loro Album “Heaven Up Here” una spiaggia infinita, un tramonto invernale, uno stormo di gabbiani e l’ombra dell’ anima riflessa in piccole onde che vanno a infrangersi in riva al mare.
Album sbalorditivo nonché … … etèreo.
