Quando si tratta di band d'oltremanica è spesso il primo disco ad attirare l'attenzione mediatica e fare subito il botto. L'esordio degli Editors, al pari di altri predecessori e successori non sfugge a questa semplice regola.
Sono le tonalità scure e fredde dell'artwork a darci il benvenuto in un mondo in cui la luce non riesce a filtrare, dominato da una foschia di nebbia e oscurità che copre tutto.
E' un esordio che ha fatto notizia nella Terra d'albione, più omogeno del successivo, ha tra i suoi solchi parecchi momenti di spessore, alcuni di questi elevati ad anthem come l'iniziale "Light", il loro pezzo migliore "Blood" semplice ed efficace ma che lascia il segno senza dimenticare altri tasselli importanti come la desolazione di "All Sparks", "Munich" (a cui la title-track del successivo somiglia un po'), "Someone Says" o la finale e suggestiva "Distance" con le sue atmosfere notturne. Non mancano anche un paio di momenti più riflessivi come "Fall", "Camera", "Open Your Arms" e il già citato pezzo finale.
Abbiamo di fronte 6/7 potenziali singoli senza che la qualità scemi. La voce di Tom Smith molto calda e caratterizzante, si sposa perfettamente al tessuto musicale sottostante, riuscendo a lasciare il segno.
Se cercate un disco caldo da ascoltare a casa avvolti da una coperta, in una fredda serata autunnale/invernale fatevi avanti, quando avete finito di ascoltarlo sarà forse già primavera e allora uscirete dal balcone ad ammirare la folle corsa clandenstina dei topi!
