In nostro onore... E siamo molto onorati che Dave Grohol e amichetti si diano da fare per noi, mettendo in cantiere ben due dischi due.
I FF hanno deciso di pubblicare in un solo colpo un doppio cd, metà con il solito stile alla Foo roccheggiante, e metà con il solito stile alla Foo polleggiato... Perché L'ex Nirvana ha sempre avuto quel suo modo di fare canzoni incazzulente e di infilarci in mezzo qualche pezzo acustico.
Un gran buon lavoro; una registrazione veramente impeccabile. Hanno quel bel suono deciso, pulito e dai contorni definiti; anche la copertina ha una certa classe, in modo particolare quella dell'edizione limitata in cartone, che rispetto alla versione normale include un DVD che contiene il disco in versione dolby e i retroscena della registrazione.
E fin qua tanto di cappello.
Il problema sta nel fatto che manca qualcosa; si avverte l'assenza di un ingrediente fondamentale, prima di oggi consueto alla band, e di importanza rilevante per creare un album che possa rimanere, anche solo in un angolino, nella storia del Rock. Mi riferisco a quella canzone che ti si imprime nel cervello. Negli album storici c'è sempre una canzone, almeno una, destinata a divenire memorabile.
Le canzoni memorabili dei Foo sono Breakout, Learn To Fly, The One, All My Life e Time Like These... e però "In Your Honor" non ha la sua canzone...
Generalmente un disco diventa un gran disco quando alle canzoni si associano emozioni, o quando suscita emozioni, e la musica che esce dal mio stereo in questo momento suona bene, ma non dice un granché.
"In Your Honor" appartiene sfortunatamente a quella categoria di dischi denominata 'Copri Silenzio' e non alla categoria 'Crea Emozioni'. Certo è fatto davvero bene e nel booklet si leggono nomi importanti, John Paul Jones dei Led Zeppelin (gruppo idolo di Dave), l'amicone Josh Homme e inspiegabilmente anche Norah Jones, però non contiene nulla di veramente incisivo, in modo particolare il primo disco. Il secondo CD, quello acustico, è forse più piacevole da ascoltare.
"In Your Honor" è un sottofondo indicato per appisolarsi senza troppi pensieri sotto l'ombrellone, in quest'estate che si prospetta torrida.

Per i fan del gruppo si può dire che questo risulta essere il lavoro più interessante dei Foo Fighters, ma per i casuali ascoltatori può risultare a tratti noioso e inconcludente.
Il primo CD elettrico è una parziale delusione; il secondo acustico risolleva in buona parte le sorti dell'album.
