1970: il “Beatle tranquillo”, che già aveva dato prova di non essere la semplice spalla del duo Lennon-McCartney con brani del calibro di “Something” o “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, alza la voce e si fa sentire, si fa sentire eccome! Esce “All Things Must Pass”, opera prima dell’Harrison solista, primo album triplo a salire in vetta alle classifiche inglesi e americane. Il genio di Harrison, tenuto in ombra per anni, esplode in tutta la sua bellezza in un album che, grazie anche ad ospiti di eccezione (fu prodotto da Phil Spector e parteciparono tra gli altri l’amico Eric Clapton e Ringo Starr), è senza dubbio un capolavoro.
Dopo la dolcissima “I’d Have You Anytime” si passa a quella che è senza dubbio la più famosa e controversa canzone di Harrison: “My Sweet Lord” fu oggetto di una causa giudiziaria durata anni intentata dalle Chiffons, che ne denunciavano la somiglianza (che in effetti non è poca) con la loro “He’s So Fine” del 1962. “What Is Life” comincia con un fantastico assolo di chitarra elettrica, al quale si sovrappongono basso, tastiera e infine batteria. Il più bel brano dell’album. Molto belle anche le altre tracce, tra le quali spiccano “If Not For You” (scritta con Dylan) e “All Things Must Pass”. I sei minuti di “Hear Me Lord” mettono in luce la religiosità di George (“Out and in, there's no place that You're not in”). Il disco si chiude con cinque jams strumentali, molto improvvisate registrate durante le pause in studio, tra le quali risalta la folgorante “Thanks For The Pepperoni”.
Nel complesso questo corposo triplo album permette ad Harrison di mettere in mostra il suo talento di compositore e chitarrista solista, innalzandolo a pieno titolo nell’Olimpo degli dei immortali del Rock.

"All Things Must Pass" ha sorpreso chi mai si sarebbe aspettato un esordio triplo e tutto di ottimo livello da George Harrison.
"My Sweet Lord" resta un pezzo trascinante pur nella sua semplicità, ma non il più bello dell'opera, che contiene gemme di più elevata caratura.
