Questo disco è inutile, come lo sono gli Hammerfall e come lo è questa recensione.
Ora, io ascoltavo molto power metal tempo fa e so benissimo che la maggior parte dei gruppi power metal possono risultare un po' ridicoli con i loro draghi, le spadone di cartapesta e stronzate varie, però almeno la musica in molti casi era bella, di facile ascolto, aveva un po' la funzione di un antistress e mi piaceva.
Però... ecco, l’inutilità di questo cd è lampante, ingombrante, non si può fare a meno, ascoltando questo cd, di chiedersi: "Ma per quale motivo gli Hammerfall sono diventati famosissimi e ci sono almeno un migliaio di gruppi simili (e non) piú bravi il cui cantante magari fa il rappresentante di latticini per campare (vedi Amon Amarth)?".
La risposta è, ovviamente: "Boh".
Non c'è nessuna figa in questo gruppo e in piú dubito che qualcuno di questi cinque svedesi (non ne sono sicuro però... che importa?) abbia dato via il c*l* a qualche importante produttore. Inoltre la totale assenza di tecnica e originalità (quando il power è ormai in fase stagnante da cinque anni che senso ha fare un cd del genere?) è impressionante: i due chitarristi sono incredibilmente mediocri, idem per la sessione ritmica. L'unico che si salva è Joacim Cans, vittima poco tempo fa di un'aggressione da parte di un blackster in un pub (che dire...) e chiamato addirittura per la reunion del leggendario progetto Warlord, dotato di un buon timbro vocale, ma per carità, niente di nuovo... il solito castrato.
La cosa che proprio non mi va giù sono alcuni chorus davvero patetici come in The Way of the Warrior o Templars of Steel, che irriterebbero per la loro pacioccosità anche i Rhapsody, che in queste cose non hanno niente da imparare.
In fondo questo disco non è poi brutto, ha la fortuna di avere come singolo Renegade che è davvero molto bella e ha alcuni pezzi come Living in Victory, A Legend Reborn o The Champion che non sono assolutamente male, sono semplicemente mediocri, come gli Hammerfall e come probabilmente questa recensione.
Ringraziano Chuck Shuldiner nel libretto... Lui si sta ancora rivoltando nella tomba.
