Gli Hollenthon sono un gruppo austriaco (infatti il nome deriva dal nome di un villaggio del loro paese) capitanato dal bravo Martin Schirenc che suona tutti gli strumenti tranne la batteria, suonata da Mike Groeger. With Vilest of Worms to Dwell è il loro secondo album, dopo l’esordio Domus Mundi del 1999.
É difficile definire il suond del gruppo: diciamo che suonano del death sinfonico (bellissima la sezione ottoni!) con marcate influenze Thrash e Power. Il pregio degli Hollenthon è proprio questo: riuscire a fondere molti generi diversi fra loro stupendo l’ascoltatore.
Il cd si apre con la bella "Y Draig Goch". Si apre e continua con il particolare mix di chitarre e orchestrazioni che caratterizzerà tutto il platter. Splendidi e ispirati gli ottoni! Ottimo il growl di Martin. "Woe to the Defated" inizia con l’unione tra tastiere e chitarre. È un pezzo molto oscuro e lento, dove i cori e le influenze orientali la fanno da padrone.
Quando parte la terza traccia, "Lords Of Bedlam" sobbalzo dalla sedia: ho già sentito questo pezzo! In realtà è la rielaborazione di Romeo e Giulietta di Prokovief. Ancora una nota di merito ai tromboni. Inaspettati ma perfetti: geniali! "To Kingdom Come", un pezzo molto happy si apre con dei cori maestosi e continua con dei riff molto catchy. Si alternano il growl, i cori e le vocals femminili. "The Calm Before the Storm" è pezzo lento e melodico, influenzato dal folk dove la fanno da padrone le clean vocals di Martin. "Fire Upon The Blade" inizia con una parte molto sinfonica, da colonna sonora per poi emergere il growl e le chitarre. Splendido l’intermezzo dove le voci femminili sono in primo piano. "Conquest Demise" è un pezzo molto oscuro e melodico cantato dalle clean vocals. Bellissimo l’assolo dell’intermezzo e l’intricato finale. Il cd si chiude con "Cospirator" dove compare una certa attitudine goth. Il pezzo è tutto un alternarsi tra tastieroni oscuri, cori e orchestrazioni.
Peccato che gli Hollenthon siano un gruppo semi-sconosciuto perché questo cd meriterebbe di essere ascoltato da tutti i metallari.
