È un onore per me recensire questo disco! Era il 1992 quando 'Penetralia' fu presentato dal gruppo, allora quintetto. Già perché di li a poco uno split avrebbe portato i nostri alla loro forma attuale di trio.
Parlando del disco, esso inizia con la potente Impotent God (scusate il gioco di parole..), una canzone molto buona, che aiuta a farci rendere conto di quello che erano gli Hypocrisy all'epoca! Anche la seconda Suffering Souls non è affatto male!! La canzone inizia cadenzata per poi esplodere a velocità molto elevata, al limite del death, e regalarci splendide emozioni!
La canzone successiva Nightmare è il primo capolavoro del cd, la canzone si evolve in passaggi che passano dall'atmosfera del black, alla pesantezza del death concludendosi con un assolo di chiara matrice swedish. Jesus Fall è un pezzo che si discosta abbastanza dalle canzoni precedenti, si intuisce molto chiaramente che molte band di death/black svedese hanno preso ispirazione da questa track che a tratti ricorda in maniera evidente i Dismember.
Con God is a… si ritorna invece ai canoni tipici del death; la canzone è una bomba e si candida ad essere una delle migliori dell'album, anche se la qualità media di tutte le canzoni di questo cd è veramente molto alta!! Left to rot prosegue sulla scia della track precedente, anzi anche meglio!! Rimanere fermi durante questa canzone è praticamente impossibile e riesce a regalare emozioni veramente forti coinvolgendo l'ascoltatore in una maniera incredibile!! FANTASTICA! Molto probabilmente il pezzo migliore del disco! Dopo una botta così forte come la track precedente, un rallentamento era prevedibile, e infatti Burn by the cross non spinge più di tanto l'acceleratore sulla velocità.. all'inizio!! Dopo un mid-tempo a dir poco demoniaco, la canzone rinasce da un riff scritto da Lucifero in persona e parte alla velocità della luce per poi abbassare di nuovo la velocità esaltando a più non posso chi si appresta ad ascoltare il suddetto cd! Cazzo che botta, ragazzi!
Arrivati a questo punto mi rimane molto difficile descrivere To escape is to die, o perlomeno l'inizio così strano! Ad un certo punto sembra di sentire un riff dei primissimissimi Europe, ma poi la canzone prende i connotati di una death metal song strappapalle con un assolo da orgasmo e una cavalcata finale! It's ok guys! Take the throne, parte anch'essa cadenzata e pesante come un macigno per poi esplodere potente e compatta! Bella, bella canzone! E così siamo arrivati all'ultima canzone, la title track. Sembra che gli Hypocrisy vogliano farci tirare il fiato con una song delicata dove inizialmente si sentono solo chitarra pulita, batteria e tastiera ma.. La band di nuovo riparte con riff su riff molto accattivanti! Si sente molto l'influenza del black e della melodia di stampo svedese (ehi nei limiti, non sto parlando di melodia alla ultimi Arch Enemy o Hypocrisy stessi!!) La canzone è cazzuta e guarda un po' si candida anch'essa, tanto per cambiare, ad essere una delle migliori dell'album!
Cosa dire di più? 'Penetralia' è una pietra miliare dello swedish death metal, ha pesantemente influenzato il death/black e non contiene riempitivi, cosa volere di più?? Acquisto obbligato a tutti i fan del metal estremo, astenersi powerosi e co. ovviamente!!
Ricordo che in questo cd troviamo alla voce Masse Broberg!! Se ai più questo nome non dice una mazza, vi dico che qualche anno dopo essere uscito dagli Hypocrisy il caro Masse ha sostituito un altro cantante in un gruppetto chiamato Dark Funeral prendendo come nickname Emperor Magus Caligula e più tardi entrerà in un altro gruppo death chiamato God Among Insects.. E' chiaro adesso?? Saluti!
