Siamo nell'anno 1984, in contemporanea mondiale esce "Civilized Man", nono disco ufficiale di Joe Cocker.
Il disco fila in una maniera assurda, specialmente nelle giornate di pioggia. All'interno si possono trovare moltissime ballads. "Long drag off a cigarette", stupenda e unica. Non voglio tralasciare anche altre stupende "Civilized Man" che da il nome all'album e lancia una sonorità ruggente. Le restanti tracce "Come on in", "Tempted", "I love the night", "Hold On", "There goes my baby" sono anch'esse ottime canzoni ma non di rilievo.
Rimane "A girl like you" che da una piccola scossa di movimento. Anche "Crazy in love" è una stupenda ballad... pazzo nell'amore, vi dice tutto. Il finale con "Even a fool would let go"..

01 Civilized Man (03:55)
You made me need you
need you so bad
Fool to believe you. you made me so mad
oh yeah
Double cross me once
never cross me again
And now you're runnin' round lookin' for some sympathy
When you know as well as I that we're history.
You're lucky - I'm a civilized man
You're so lucky - I'm a civilized man
oh yeah
a civilized man.
A poison arrow right from the start
Went down to zero
you went for my heart
oh yeah.
Usin' hoodoo voodoo to start the fire again
Now you asked me to forget all you put me thru
When you know as well as I you got it comin' to you.
Now you're lucky - I'm a civilized man. . . .
Using hoodoo voodoo to start the fire again.
Now you're runnin' round lookin' for some sympathy
When you know as well as I that we are history.
Oh
you're lucky - I'm a civilized man . . .
Oh
you're lucky - I'm a civilized man . . .
You're so lucky - you've got a civilized man
You're so lucky - you've got a civilized man.
04 Tempted (04:15)
I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste
A flannel for my face
Pyjamas, a hairbrush
New shoes and a case
I said to my reflection
Let's get out of this place
Past the church and the steeple
The laundry on the hill
Billboards and the buildings
Memories of it still
Keep calling and calling
But forget it all
I know I will
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
What's been going on
Now that you have gone
There's no other
Tempted by the fruit of another
Tempted but the truth is discovered
I'm at the car park, the airport
The baggage carousel
The people keep on crowding
I'm wishing I was well
I said it's no occasion
It's no story I could tell
At my bedside empty pocket
A foot without a sock
Your body gets much closer
I fumble for the clock
Alarmed by the seduction
I wish that it would stop
I bought a novel, some perfume
A fortune all for you
But it's not my conscience
That hates to be untrue
I asked of my reflection
Tell me what is there to do
